This is one of those ill conceived decisions that will backfire. By that I mean the Muslims will file a lawsuit against the city for violation of their constitutional rights. The Muslims will win on appeal. The Court will assess fees and costs against the city. Those attorney fees and costs will be in excess of $500,000.00. So who wins? Muslims and lawyers. Who loses? The taxpayers out there protesting.

That will be a puppet show that will never pay off.
Federal government has never seized or been able to seize a states assets, from it's treasury.
It won't happen here either.
The State is the government (on all levels). The City Council, which is the leadership of a local government entity, voted against the applicant without discussion which makes me believe they arrived at their decision prior to the public hearing. Based on the article, as limited as it is, they didn't provide a legal basis for their decision. I'm surprised their legal counsel didn't advise them to at least discuss the application. They've needlessly exposed themselves to litigation.

Let's see...
EXACTLY what does the First Amendment say about religion?
Oh, yeah:
"CONGRESS shall make NO LAW respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;..." (emphasis added).
Now, please explain to us all just what law CONGRESS has passed that requires a decision from the United States Supreme Court or any other court. Remember now, Congress (with a capital C) is quite specifically defined in Article I, Section 1 of the basic United States Constitution.
Now let's look at the GEORGIA STATE CONSTITUTION:
"Paragraph IV. Religious opinions; freedom of religion. No inhabitant of this
state shall be molested in person or property or be prohibited from holding any public
office or trust on account of religious opinions; but the right of freedom of religion shall
not be so construed as to excuse acts of licentiousness or justify practices inconsistent
with the peace and safety of the state."
HMMM...
Isn't THAT interesting:
"...but the right of freedom of religion shall not be so construed as to excuse acts of licentiousness or justify practices inconsistent with the peace and safety of the state."
Could the existence of a Mosque in any way be "inconsistent with the peace and safety of the state"?
Given the "convert them or kill them" attitude of the current crop of Muslim extremists, seems to me the only possible answer varies from "probably" to a resounding "YES"!
Remember, you won't know who is an extremist until he (or she) yells "Alluha Akbar" and kills you.
Religion has been spread through trade and conflict, Islam has been no different than Christianity in that matter. While Jesus may not have been a military leader, plenty of people took up arms and killed others in his name, much like followers of Islam have done for Allah or Mohammed.
Mohammed LED armies, Jesus did NOT. You understand the difference dont you?

Cities pay out all the time if they lose a case for a violations of a private person's constitutional rights. That is why cities, counties, etc. tend to be very conservative when it comes to denying someone or a business a permit, for instance. The City will pay for this denial as well.

"CONGRESS shall make NO LAW"
Meaning the US Congress. Refer to the 9th & 10th Amendments for clarification.
Why allow to build a place of "worship" that reads from a barbaric book telling its adherents to kill infidels who don't obey Islamic law, not to trust and take Jews and Christians as your friend, to stone and kill homosexuals and adultery, treat women as second class citizen, etc. etc. etc.
People decided - not the government! The peple don't want terrorism training in their neighborhood!
