He did the right thing. Humans aren't robots. A little kindness sometimes works wonders.

I think she probably could. I know my church alone has multiple programs to help the needy, and I volunteer at two places that have more. But I have no idea what happened in her life before this day. It's possible her child dumped the grandchildren on her suddenly and she was in crisis mode, not stopping to determine what resources were available. There has been a huge outpouring of donations for her. Hopefully while they are supplied with the donations she will be able to make a long term plan for food, etc.

Doing the right thing would be punishing her for stealing.

The police have been collecting donations for the family at their station.

Glad to see his heartwarming story in the middle of all the insanity that is going on right now.
That's great to hear. Really good to hear with everything that's going on.

Dollar General dropped the charges. Even the Bible has a different set of rules for those stealing to eat. If you had children and no means to pay, you'd do the same.

Dropped charges and the bible don't justify her actions. We don't live in a Christian theocracy nor should we.

If "mom" did not spend her welfare money on drugs, "granny" would not have to steal. What a family.

Well its up to Dollar General. Just like if they stole from me I'd get to decide if I wanted to press charges.

It's almost Christmas.
