Do you think that 30%-50% of the income in these countries comes from veterans retirement benefits; That the majority of counties in these places have populations that are 50% retired military?

The truth is most of that income is from Social Security Disability and SNAP. The states with the highest percentage of people on SSDI are those with the highest poverty and lowest labor participation rates.

Retirement includes regular Social Security retirees too.

I'm just now looking at this thread, but haven't gone through all of the pages.

Has anybody posted charts that break down who is receiving this welfare?

Without knowing who is receiving it, making any kind of connection to Republicans or Democrats is useless conjecture.

This is a great chart showing the states that lead in medicaid, food stamps, you can filter each category.

Look at Maine, this is not just black areas as one of the posters contended.

This is particular to Kentucky but gives a good idea what is happening.

I posted the charts. Here they are, again:

Source: Maxwell School

From Pew Research...

How many Americans have ever received food stamps?
Republican: 10%
Democrat: 22%
Independent: 17%
The politics and demographics of food stamp recipients | Pew Research Center

And...

Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University data cited here:
81% of people receiving public housing benefits vote Democratic - and that's just the tip of the handout iceberg

Pretty easy to see which political party has the most personally responsible, self-supporting voters.

Ok, I'm looking at Maine. The three "darkest" Medicaid counties have per capita levels of 8.84%, 9.68% and 12.69%. What makes you think these people vote for GOP? Clearly, the other 87%+ do not need their help to win elections.

BTW, this maps is misleading. What does "% of personal income" mean in relation to Medicaid? Show us the percentage of people on entitlement programs.

While some red states are some of the most likely to use government aid, others are some of the least likely to use it. Central/Northern red states like Kansas, Nebraska, North/South Dakota and Wyoming have some of the lowest rates of dependence on handouts.

But that means little without knowing exactly who in a given state is using these handouts. From data we have available, Democrats are much more likely to use these programs than Republicans, regardless if they live in a state that voted slightly more for a Republican or Democrat for President.

Yeap! That's exactly why I'm saying it correlates with the percentage of the black population.

Money is Green and I really does not matter how you get it. Just ask the Donald who kept his own fortune intact through several bankruptcies.

Without crop subsidies and below cost grazing fees, publicly built irrigation systems and mining depletion allowances most of the country between the Mississippi River and the West slope of the Rocky Mountains would be even less populated than currently. for instance the Gasohol Program is just an industrial welfare system wrapped up in the cloak of environmental respectability.

It is time for the Federal government to put the money where the people are living not where the Buffalo used to roam.

USDA ERS - Rural Poverty & Well-being: Transfer Payments
Every time I see someone post these ridonkulous stats I have to laugh. More percentage to make a case faux statisticians.

The bottom line is the bottom line regardless of state:

Welfare Income, by Race and Ethnicity:

Percent of recipients who are white38.8 %
Percent of recipients who are black39.8 %
Percent of recipients who are Hispanic15.7 %
Percent of recipients who are Asian2.4 %
Percent of recipients who are Other3.3 %

That's all there is to it. Overall population who received some form of welfare by ethnicity.

The left should stop making the foolish case that more conservatives are on welfare. Hell... 27% of welfare recipients live in California!!! More than half of total recipients are black and Hispanic, and they DO NOT VOTE CONSERVATIVE, even in the south.

The right should stop crying how these people on welfare are living some kind of high life on their dollar. The average welfare recipient get a paltry $3200yr, which is hardly Lobster money.

Do people abuse the system, OF COURSE! 20% of welfare recipients have been on it for more than 5 years. It is this generational abuse of welfare which has to stop.

The total budget for welfare was a little over $131B. There are far more disastrous spending habits in DC that I can think of.
