If he bought the gun from a criminal, NO BACKGROUND CHECK would obviously be done. So, as usual, we have a demonstration of the failure of existing gun control law being used to justify more failed laws. Ones that do absolutely nothing o control crime.

The fault is of the State of NY. The relevant part of the article:

The obvious question for anyone with an IQ over 60 is, why was he not in prison in the first place? Why did the state of New York let a multi-time felon go free, to continue to prey on the public? And in this case, 2 law enforcement officers. The "legal system" of the state is on trial here, not other state's gun control laws.
He didn't buy the gun in NYS and if GA had background checks on private sales he would not have a gun unless it was sold illegally. The gun control laws in GA are very loose, that is why it is a favorite destination for guns, they are complicit.

The gun came from the pawn shop. Doesnt mean he is the one that bought it.
State laws mean nothing. The FFLs are all bound by federal law.
Pawn shops that sell guns are required to do background checks, no matter what state. It is not considered a private sale.

Some people just make things up. Gun are illegal in Mexico yet no one has a problem getting them there. If he couldn't buy the gun he could just print one.

Would you like to compare the crime rates of those states to NYC? Right.....I didn't think so.

Yes there is no record since 1996, thanks for reinforcing the point.

All is good in GA seems like the system is working rather well right, we don't need any more laws.

After the first legal purchase of any gun there is no way to track who ends up with it unless the parties go out of their way to use a FFL again. That means throwing away money. The amount FFLs were charging to do xfers was obscene. I paid 75 bucks just to do the paperwork on a handgun that I sold about 2 months later and that 150 bucks just got ate by the system. Simply a money maker.

Yep....it's been in someones house since 1996...then pawned....then bought....with a back ground check....then the person lied on the 4473...then sold it....

The laws don't work, when a criminal is involved...why is that so hard to understand?

But, more laws are obviously needed, because the current laws are enforced....right...

In 2010, prosecutors considered just 22 cases of information falsification, according to a 2012 report to the Department of Justice by the Regional Justice Information Service. Forty additional background-check cases ended up before prosecutors for reasons related to unlawful gun possession.

In all, prosecutors pursued just 44 of those 62 cases. More than 72,600 applications were denied on the basis of a background check.

“We think it is problematic when the administration takes lightly the prosecutions under existing gun laws and yet does not seem to have a problem promoting a whole host of other gun laws,” Baker told TheDC.

“If we are not going to enforce the laws that are on the books, it not only engenders disrespect for the law but it makes law-abiding gun owners wonder why we are going through this exercise we are going through now,” he added.

Well, duh. I guess we need more laws since the DOJ is ignoring the existing ones. The ones criminals are breaking not honest gun owners.
It will give them more laws to ignore. Perfect.
