It’s widely assumed that white police officers are more likely to shoot black suspects as a result of racial bias, but recent research suggests the opposite is true.
An innovative study published in the Journal of Experimental Criminology found that participants in realistic simulations felt more threatened by black suspects yet took longer to pull the trigger on black men than on white or Hispanic men.
“This behavioral ‘counter-bias’ might be rooted in people’s concerns about the social and legal consequences of shooting a member of a historically oppressed racial or ethnic group,” said the paper.
I actually agree with that conclusion. Too bad it doesn't pan out in reality when it comes to demographic percentage comparisons.
But FWIW, I was involved in a police altercation/harrassment incident and my lawyer flat out told me that if the officer had been white we would have received more in damages and would have gotten a much better result in the case. I won the case somewhat (it was settled out of court) but I agreed with her comments.
Another FWIW, I truly feel that in many ways that many black cops are worse than white ones. I am black btw, and I have never had a negative interaction with a white police officer. I have had a TON of them with black officers though and I do file internal complaints and if I feel it is warranted, I will file a legal complaint against every single one of them.
When you can't say 'boo' to a certain demographic without it becoming a nationally televised incident involving the NAACP...this will happen. Even if that demographic has been proven to commit vastly more crime and mayhem percentage wise.
How about this one:
Robert Earl Lawrence was turning in a stray cat to a Dothan, Alabama, animal shelter. For some reason, he had to show I.D. before he could leave the cat. Rather than pulling out a driver's license, "he instead showed paperwork that identified him as a sovereign citizen and, therefore, not bound by federal, state, or local laws."
