VALLEY, Ala. – You’ve likely heard of students bringing canned food to school for food drives, but have you ever heard of bringing a canned food item to school for safety?

A letter sent to parents of students at one school in Chambers County requested just that — students were asked to arm themselves with an eight ounce canned food item.

Ah...is the administration saying that canned food can be used as weapons? And don't these schools have a "zero tolerance" policy? The utter stupidity of modern school administrators is limitless.

Must be a class in evolution. We all started out throwing rocks and then progressed. Spears,Atlatls and bows will predictably be next.

Ah, dented cans and botulism? off the intruder some hot soup?

What they need is cans of surströmming (soured herring), smells so bad, you won't have to worry about anyone wanting to intrude the place anymore.

This is why anti gun groups can never be taken seriously.

Sure can't have teachers who volunteer to be trained have a gun in a locked drawer, nope, instead we will give each student a can of tomatoes.

I'm laughing so hard I almost started crying.....

In the letter, Principal Holley said students who are armed with a canned food item will have a sense of empowerment to protect themselves in the event an intruder enters their classroom.

True story:

Friend has a 7 year old and a rambunctious 2-3 year old that has thrown a tantrum at the grocery store over candy or whatnot. As they are driving out of the parking lot there is a solid thud against the back of her headrest. What was that she asked the kids seated behind her with the groceries.

The response? "Can of corn mom. Hannah (the younger kid) threw a can of corn at you."

So, maybe they are on to something.
