I know go figure. I was pulled over for making an improper turn. Did I do it? Absolutely, My father had just went into emergency dialysis and I turned where there was a no turn sign. As I made the turn I saw a cop at the end of the side street looking straight at me. I knew I had Fed up big time. I pulled into the circle K and waited. I got out my DL and as I did he saw that I had a CCW lisc. underneath. This is in Sarasota off of Clark road. He asked me if there was anything else I wanted to tell him. I said was he referring to my CCW lisc? and that I thought in Fla, it was a not necessary to disclose in a traffic stop state. He then barked back that You have a CCW and don't know the law? I said I thought I did, was I wrong. He then barked back yes I had to and that if I did not and I got the wrong cop I could get shot. LOL Shot by cop in Fla, like that happens. Wait, never mind. He then in a very condescending voice told me to go home and read the materiel on CCW law, which I did and found out I was right in the first place. Fla does not require me to inform the cop that I have a CCW or am or not carrying a weapon. I called the Sheriff dept and told them officer ******* *** had been very condescending and that he was in fact the one that did not know the law. I was told in a round about way by the publicity officer that I was in fact right. Goes to show most cops just don't like people carrying. Never rely on a cop knowing the law.

Whaaaaa... whaaaaa..
Man up ...
You got stopped for something you admit and then wanted a pass... which you got apparently
You carry a gun... it is polite to tell the officer. It is a requirement here in California... along with a host of other rules
You got a "condescending tone".... well too bad... sounds like you got a break .
I checked with a ccw instructor I know in Florida.. he claims he teaches to advise Leo if stopped as a courtesy and to prevent getting a pistola shoved in your ear if you had it anywhere the officer could see it...
Since you don't have a clue what was going on in his mind you should have taken the break and gone on your way... the complaint is bs... you got courtesy and you allowed your ego to take over... you should be ashamed
There is the law and there is common sense... sounds like you could possibly benefit from using the application of both
Stopped a nicely dressed woman driving in a good area with a male passenger.
She was laughing and joking with him as I asked her for her license and registration. She opened her purse diving in for what later turned out to be her wallet... unfortunately her chiefs special was there to...
In the speed of light I had my gun pressed in her ear.
Wide eyed with reality she stammered she was a detective with a neighboring agency...
She had been out of patrol for a long time... and was going to badge me knowing I wouldn't write her.. which I wouldn't unless she was DUI... everyone goes..police or not
Anyway... she displayed horrible common sense... she was another policeman who would never harm me... to me she was a threat ... and then later just plain stupid... I may have been condescending to her to
Stupidity gets condescension
I don't care what the law supposedly says. If a cop pulls you over and asks if you have a CCW don't get cute. Just tell him. And if you're carrying tell him that too. And exactly where the firearm is. Meanwhile stay still until he gives you some direction. If you're carrying legal there's nothing to sweat.
It is absolutely stupid to talk to LE at all. They are encouraged to lie to you in order to entrap you, yet it is a crime to lie to them, and you could be trapped in a bad situation even if you have never done anything illegal by just talking to them.
For instance they ask you where you are coming from, and you say you are coming from Newtown. Unknown to you, there has been some sort of crime just committed in Newtown and you have just provided evidence against yourself that makes you a suspect. You should have just shut up and exercised your right to remain silent.
Any lawyer or law professor will tell you this if you ask them. The only thing you should say is that you have not committed a crime and are you free to go.
