Everyone talks about equal pay, equal this and equal that.
What if everything in government were equal.
All government pay... Equal.
Everyone in a federal government job, should receive the same exact pay. Set an example.
No matter what gov. job you have or where you live, you get $60,000 a year + full healthcare. Your pension is your SS or any private investments you make. President, secretaries, management, IRS employees, all military personnel... You are all equally our servants.
So you will ensure you get only the ultra rich running for office or idealists. Oh WAIT...that's happening now . Strange how when you let them butter the bread for generations they were able to get a lot done, and as soon as you start eliminating the perks, and fighting for transparency, nothing gets done.
Government pay already is more leveled than the private sector, largely for political reasons. Generally states and localities underpay skilled workers and overpay unskilled and semiskilled workers, while the feds pay skilled workers roughly market rate and overpay unskilled and semiskilled workers. The over-payments result in way higher spending than is really needed to get stuff done, while the underpayments accelerate revolving doors between regulatory agencies and industry. It is problematic in theory and it has been problematic in practice.

When the subject of equal pay ever comes up, it's about women receiving equal pay to men for the same job skills. I know of no other application where equal pay has been discussed. Nobody thinks burger flippers should get the same as the president.

How did you arrive at $60,000/year? With that said, it's illogical that a Secret Service agent should get paid the same as a janitor. And who would do whatever they do for the same pay for their entire career?
If the argument is government is inefficient, then this is a recipe for more inefficiency.
The system we have now, makes that quite apparent now....
You should want to serve your fellow American, to solve problems plaguing freedom. Not in it for the cash, perks and greed.
Again, we already do this to a lesser degree, and it hasn't resulted in civic minded public servants, it's resulted in golden parachutes for private-sector bankers and the like that trigger specifically if they leave to work for the government, and signing bonuses a few years later when they come back.
If you pay too much you get waste, if you pay too little you get a culture of corruption. You need to take politics out of the equation at all to get good government but because it's government good luck.
