I joined the Air Force so I could serve my country. Plus, it was a way to get out of my hometown, where you either worked in the bearings factory or worked on a farm. I never thought of doing it for "glory and honor."

I noted this tidbit in a recent internet article. ".... and because the end of major military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq lessen the chances for glory and honor."

Is that really a selling point?

Oh yeah, the other thing was "Seven out of 10 applicants fail to meet Army Reserve standards on “mental, moral and physical reasons,” said Capt. Eric Connor, U.S. Army' Reserve Command spokesman."
I guess they will never get their shot at glory and honor.

A land where 7 out of 10 applicants are either too fat, too evil, or too insane to be a recruit?
Say it ain't so.

Ask Obama, Glory and honor are only for those graduating West Point.
The rest are just assassins, fighting someone else's war.

That the Army is considering reconditioning ( fat) camps before enlistment says a lot about the US people.

Perhaps the military could consider undocumented aliens and give them an opportunity to earn citizenship.

I tried joining the Air Force in 2009. I was turned away because I have health issues.

Here is a very interesting article

"A few months ago, reporters around the country took up the subject of young Americans being unfit to serve in the military, and that is fine. I raise no question over it... after all we are in the junk-food/TV/video game generation. But the image used by numerous media outlets for this story, is a false representation. it is a fat man in a U.S. Marine uniform and I have news for you, there are no fat Marines."

There are No Fat Marines - Salem-News.Com

This is an incredibly good article.

I don't know much about the Army, if you want to see who is currently serving in the Marine Corps, go to oceanside and 29Palm area, most of them have INCREDIBLY nice body. So if you are too freaking fat like Michael Moore, you might want to lose weight before even considering joining the military.

I was wondering this also......thought this was the reason for healthcare, get America back in shape.

We lost shape when Nintendo came into every house and P.E. was cut from American schools.

Try the "glory and honor" of shoveling out fire hydrants in the North eastern cities.

If you don't learn a trade in the military you will have a difficult time assimilating back into a job, maybe good for people that have no alternative but not a road to success.
