A history book could explain that pretty easily, but there is not question these moves are happening.

Sorry don't want to pay for illegals or people who keep making babies they can't afford.
I understand your opinion. Can't say I disagree.

Please tell me how this differs from other states. What makes Illinois more generous?

Actually California and NY are both the states receiving the most amount of tech grads.

Not all states offer welfare to illegals and not every state offers as much welfare as Illinois.

I see many references to why blue states are so wealthy and red states so poor. If you bother to read those articles it seems the bluest parts of blue states are extremely poor, the redder parts are not. The article most touted about CA's wealth also states that Los Angeles is now the most poor. The wealth of red San Diego is being held up as an example of how well blue CA is doing.

One of the jokes about taxation is how Lake Tahoe CA is dying as Lake Tahoe NV is growing as all the rich move to NV's side of the lake.

FWIW, my folks taught me as a kid that people do not uproot themselves from their hometown to find more advantageous economic and taxation situations and still don't understand why I like San Diego better than Pittsburgh, and they are relatively young.
The San Francisco Bay Area is by far the wealthiest part of California and it's hardly red. California is like Italy - all the money's in the north.

(BTW, San Diego's purple).

I am unaware of any state that offers welfare benefits to undocumented immigrants who are adults and not pregnant. That I am unaware does not mean there are no states that do so.

In the early 80's,Texas intended to defund education of undocumented children and charge tuition. That initiative was struck down by the SCOTUS. All states educate undocumented children and have been doing so since forever.

So long as one person in your household is a US citizen you may qualify for Section 8. This is federal, not state law.

Undocumented immigrants are not eligible for SNAP. Their US born children may be, dependent upon income.Again, this is federal, not state. Same deal with TANF.

There is a single Federal Poverty LeveL ( FPL). There are 1500+/- economies in the US. For this reason, states can and do determine eligibility by a percentage of FPL.

I am not seeing how our state is more generous than most other states.

Only at the Federal level is welfare not allowed for illegals without kids.
States are free to use their money to pay for welfare programs for illegals.

Heck we don't offer welfare to CITIZENS who are adults with no kids.

California is proposing offering all residents health insurance regardless of citizenship status.
That is up for debate this year.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/n...ants/21871167/
The push to offer health insurance to all Californians regardless of immigration status is the latest in a series of immigrant-friendly state policies. Undocumented immigrants here can obtain licenses to practice medicine, law or other professions, and, as of this month, they can apply for driver's licenses.

WTH is an "undocumented"? They are illegal aliens for God's sake according to immigration law! I guess I will change law terminology to suit myself whenever I choose I guess

After over 4 decades of democrat rule, Maine had become a welfare destination state, with waivers for unlimited lifetime TANIF, waivers for towns and city's to provide welfare to Illegal immigrants. Our lax welfare was the cause for a mass migration of Somali Immigrants from Atlanta, GA.
Now we have the most Conservative Gov. in the country, and things are changing for the better. 5 year lifetime limit on TANIF, if the liberal city's in the south of the state want to give welfare to illegals they need to pay for it themselves (gawd how the socialist howl when they have to spend there own money), vetoed medicaid expansion twice ( if the layabouts want free health care they have to move to mass or cali).
Even in my home town a citizens initiative shut down a developers plan to build more low cost housing ( we have more than enough layabouts in our town).

The blue state proponents keep saying they are doing better than red states, so they should be more than happy to take in all the layabouts moving there.
