Now I realize that in theory rape is considered one of the worst crimes one can commit, but in practice why are the "sentences" rapists get almost always a complete joke? I follow criminal cases online of all sorts of things and time after time after time convicted rapists may get 1 or even 2 years in prison if the woman that has been raped is lucky. People caught with pot get WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY harsher sentences even despite the fact it's nowhere NEAR as bad as rape which traumatizes women for years, plenty for their whole lives with PTSD.

Maybe it's harsher in other countries, but in the U.S of A if you rape a woman you certainly don't have to worry about getting punished that badly for it even despite the magnitude of the crime. There was a case awhile back where a rapist only got 30 days in jail and some community service, W....T...F????

Do we just have some very pig headed sexist ***** for judges that think rape is just not the big a deal and don't give a **** about women? If their own daughters were raped do you think they'd give anymore of a ****? There is NO reason why a convicted rapist shouldn't be doing AT LEAST 20 years for it (with hopefully some prison rape thrown in for good measure). Is it any wonder that rape is so common in America when rapists get off with a slap on the wrist? Again, someone caught with weed routinely get sent to the slammer for decades yet traumatizing a woman very likely for life apparently most judges don't see as that big a deal get off with just a few years if that.

So why is that?

In Canada, being convicted of sexual assault ( the term rape is not used here in Canada ) results in a MINIMUM sentence of four years in a Federal prison, while the maximum sentence for that crime is fourteen years in prison .

Different country...... different laws. And by the way "sexual assault " covers a wide range of situations, not just forced sexual intercourse. It is "any unwanted touching, kissing, or fondling ". The trial Judge has a duty to hear and evaluate the testimony, and to question both the complainant, and the suspect, to establish their credibility and veracity.

The suspect, in Canada, may elect to be tried by a Judge alone, or a Judge and a jury of 12 citizens.

Criminal Code of Canada, sexual assault section.

Life sentence for buying marijuana? - CNN.com

Quote:
Clearly something is broken when a Missouri man named Jeff Mizanskey can be sentenced to die in prison for purchasing seven pounds of marijuana. With two nonviolent marijuana convictions already on his record, Jeff received life without parole under Missouri's three strikes law.
The punishment of growing old and dying behind bars for offenses like Mizanskey's is extreme, tragic, and inhumane. This should outrage us, but it should not surprise us.
This country has spent 40 years relentlessly ratcheting up the number of people going to prison and dramatically expanding the time we hold them there. We've spent decades criminalizing people with drug dependency, passing extreme sentencing laws, and waging a war on drugs that has not diminished drug use. Small wonder, then, that even less serious crimes like Mizanskey's marijuana purchase result in costly and cruel sentences.
And Mizanskey is hardly the only one.
Marijuana Arrests Now Exceed Arrests For Violent Crime | The National Memo

Quote:
In 2011, arrests for marijuana exceeded arrests for violent crime by more than 100,000, according to a report from the FBI.
Though marijuana laws have become liberalized — with 18 states legalizing the drug for medicinal use and two now explicitly allowing recreational use as the result of ballot initiatives — marijuana arrests have doubled since 1980, according to this analysis from the Huffington Post:

The average sentence for rape is 65 months. Federal pot average is 42 months...with no parole. Homicide average is 71 months.

Rape has a wide range of definition. A lot of rape cases don't involve violence or traumatize the victim. Rapists do get sentenced to over 20 years, depending on the severity of the specific case.

So according to that, rapists get on average 5 years, I bet it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO horrible for them

The fact that rape sentences are so light is a travesty and just goes to show even in America most men don't view rape any worse than the Taliban. F'n male judges/politicians deserved to be butt raped for at least a year, maybe then they'll start giving a f'n ****!

Okay, give me a link to just 5 articles showing men that have gotten 20 or more years from rape (not including other crimes added to it) and I'll send you $20 to your paypal account. Also, the whole concept there are "different" definitions of rape just shows how our system is ruled by sexist pigs. Rape is rape.

You think staying in prison for 5 years is not horrible? 5 years being isolated from society is enough to change a person's life forever in a negative way. And then what happens when the person gets released and realizes he/she can no longer live a normal life?

You did nothing to back up your claims outside of accusations. On the internet that many times makes them factual for some but as a legitimate position, it does not.

Baltimore man gets life in prison for woman's rape | Baltimore City News - WBAL Home

"Rape and sexual assault are among the most horrific of crimes, and we are deeply gratified to have secured a conviction and a life sentence for this defendant. I thank and commend everyone involved in this case, but most especially the victim, who demonstrated tremendous courage throughout this long and difficult process. I can only hope that this outcome will help her to achieve a sense of closure," said State’s Attorney Gregg Bernstein.

There are hundreds of similar examples. Some of the ones I provided were because of more than one rape but I imagine that's a part of the problem in cases with lighter sentences. With one it many times becomes more difficult to prove rape and the woman would rather accept a plea deal where the man gets less time but she doesn't have to go through a trial.

With more than one it becomes far easier to prove and in the cases where proof is overwhelming, the sentences are indeed harsh in many cases. (harsh being relative, the correct word being, proper).
