I think a big problem with what did or did not happen to the USS Liberty on June 8, 1967 is that the narrative was hijacked from the beginning by anti-Zionists, anti-Semities, and other conspiracy theorists. And what has become lost in the controversy is the fate of the men who survived the attack. Were any of them able to live normal lives, or did they succumb to bitterness, mental instability, and substance abuse?
The stories on board never matched up over the years. It was a tragic misidentification. Unless we can provide sources to why Israel would attack it's only ally during wartime?
The survivors may have wanted to believe the attack was deliberate in order to make some sense out of it. The question I have it what became of them since then. I know some have died. But did they spend their lives feeling embittered and betrayed, precisely the sort of people who become attracted to conspiracy theories?

There were several possible theories as to why the Israelis would deliberately attack the ship, but in my opinion, they are all weak motives. Basically, they are all part of a centuries-long canard that Jews are evil and duplicitous.

Well one of them (Enest I think) made a book, profiting off the factious story. Some others even went all the way to Saudi Arabia to make some Saudi $$ to tell their story.
Although a theory, the most sensible was that the Liberty was a spy ship, spying on Israel. And when spotted by IAF, they couldn't identify themselves as Americans.
it was deliberate.. there is controversy about who gave the order but the order was
given, it was not a misidentification. the Liberty was flying the American flag.

Well the ship was on an intelligence-gathering mission, so secrecy was and is inevitable, although I do not believe there were malevolent intentions on the part of the United States.
Our ship was the only one that had that specific outline. They knew the ship was American.
A Israeli fighter plot refused to fire on it and was court martial-ed for that.
What bothers me is that an ally of ours with a super intelligence agency knew what ship that was and they wanted it to stop gathering information so they attacked it.
I would be just as enraged had it been a ship from Peru or etc. This whole thread is to lead us away that the crime was committed by Israel.
The Israelis are too good to have misidentified the Liberty. I don't know why they attacked, but they did so knowing it was an American ship.
