Why? Europe has been cutting its defense spending for years. If they can cut theirs, why do we have to increase ours? Has Canada been acting up? Poncho Villa on the loose again? Even Cuba is getting along with us, now the Fidel has lost it. Why more defense spending?
Notice there is no plan on actually paying for it all......
Apparently deficits don't matter when it comes to the military industrial complex that the GOP supports.
Peace comes through strength. Defense spending is the one legitimate expenditure of the U.S. Government. Paying for it isn't the issue. What is an issue is the money we have shuffled to other areas that are illegitimate expenses. The government was not intended to be a "sugar daddy." Government was not intended to be our "provider," but our protector; to secure our rights, and to protect Liberty. That is what both the Declaration of Independence, and our Constitution say.
When have the Democrats ever had a plan to pay for all the "programs" they dream up? Their solution is always more taxes ... and more debt. Our debt is quickly nearing $18 T!
Before you criticize Republicans for calling for more defense spending, look at your own Party. Look at how the Democrats (especially under Barack H. Obama) have decimated our defenses. The military has been gutted, putting us in a very dangerous place ... and our enemies know it.
Praise God!! It is sickening what has happened to our Military and National Defense. We are now at 1940's level of spending as far as percentages go. That is what our federal government is supposed to do.

David Cameron and Barack Obama today demanded other Nato countries start paying their way by drastically increasing military spending.
The Prime Minister and US President penned a joint article attacking other members of the military alliance for not pitching in against the growing threat from Russia and the Middle East.
The pair said Britain and the US were two of only four countries hitting the minimum military spending target.

It hasn't been gutted and I'm criticizing both parties.
Right now we need to take far better care of our current soldiers and the veterans. We do not need to keep up most of this industrial socialism nor do we need to be militarily involved in (quote) "Ukraine, Iraq, Syria, Honduras, western Africa, Latvia, Afghanistan, Egypt, Yemen , Libya". All of these involvements are just excuses to keep shoveling money to a few of the pentagon's selected pet industries.
