Some signs of tension emerge among Islamic State militants

But it appears to be on the defensive in Syria for the first time since it swept through the territory last year and is suffering from months of U.S.-led coalition airstrikes and the myriad factions fighting it on the ground.

"They are struggling with new challenges that did not exist before," said Lina Khatib, director of the Carnegie Middle East Center in Beirut.

Kurdish forces dealt the Islamic State its heaviest setback by driving it from the border town of Kobani in northern Syria last month. Since then, those forces have joined with moderate Syrian rebels to take back about 215 villages in the same area, according to Kurdish commanders and activists, including the Britain-based monitoring group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Good, its all over. Odd that obama didn't mention the war he is asking congress for, was already won.

Italy will be glad to hear this good news.

You all know ISIS got their ass kicked by a bunch of women and girl fighters in Kobani, right? Yes, about 40% of the militia defending Kobani were women and girls, with no body army, no heavy weapons, using dated AK 47s - - and ISIS had to withdraw, and now the women continue to kick their azz as they try to retreat. Internet videos should be made to show the ISIS wimps getting their butts kicked by girls. It's really embarrassing for them and should be exploited to show how weak they really are. This battle also goes to show the usefulness of women in combat.

They've done some recent things as well that have probably impacted their ability to recruit. Turns out burning people alive is actually against Muslim beliefs.

I didn't know that, and that is awesome. I now picture women in burqas toting Kalishnakovs standing in the back of pickups.

Damn straight. You put my ex-wife in there with an AK47 and you'd see some major whoopass. She could clear the room with a look.

That's the problem some run into. There is such a thing as too extreme.

The Kurdish YPJ women don't wear Burqas - while many are Muslim, they are semi-communist people who believe in equal rights for women - they wear fatigues, blue jeans, whatever. These female fighters always keep one round, to shoot themselves, to avoid capture, rape, torture by ISIS - and some have unfortunately had to use this round.

Look at the current ISIS threads. Some have noted that this is what would happen. It's one thing to have a success. It's quite another to maintain and hold that success especially when (as noted above) they are not widely supported.

We have no reason to declare war on them and help their recruitment.
