Two realistic alternatives. Nuke them, or sit back and watch them build up. Trusting them in any kind of agreement would be stupid (but probably just the kind of thing our muslim President would do). Negotiating with fanatics is insane, but we'll probably do it!

The President (Obama, to remind Congress), wants Iran to be able to continue development
of its civilian nuclear power and nuclear medicine initiatives in return for international and US
monitoring and surveillance to make sure it is peaceful. In return, Iran would have its trade
sanctions reduced, toward a path of eventually lifting sanctions.

Soviets survived Stalin, defeated Germany, occupied East Europe, set their proxy states all over the world, were militarily undefeatable and then collapsed because of Regan's policies and cheap oil.
