The United States is no longer in the top 10 of the most Economically Free Countries .
We are now 12th in the world in Economic Freedom. Any one believe that we will ever reverse the trend or will we keep moving down the list?

Oh yeah, the "we are not number 1 so we are failures" argument . OP, I wonder if you noticed that we actually moved toward more economic freedom.

The monologue in the video is written by Aaron Sorkin a notorious liberal, who writes fiction, I should say though his writing is extremely good for TV. I hate that video because people forget its purpose is for entertainment but gets used in real discussions about the United States standing in the world. Its well written and gives a sense of some sort of understanding of reality but it a cynical and devoid of any sort of critical thinking. Its basically a liberal bitching that we are not a utopia.

Could the heritage foundation be any more transparent?

Quote:
President Barack Obama’s second-term efforts to expand government spending and regulation have been thwarted to some extent by Republican Party opposition in Congress. Economic policy leadership has devolved by default to the Federal Reserve, whose attempts to use monetary policy to stimulate economic activity have not restored robust growth. Implementation of the 2010 health care law, which has reduced competition in most health insurance markets, remains a drag on job creation and full-time employment. Overall, the U.S. economy continues to underperform, despite a private sector–led energy boom that has made the U.S. the world’s largest producer of oil and natural gas. The weak economic recovery and uncertain responses to foreign policy challenges, particularly in the Middle East, in Ukraine, and along the southern U.S. border, have contributed to a loss of support for the President and his party and Republican majorities in both chambers of Congress as a result of 2014 midterm elections.

Country Rankings: World & Global Economy Rankings on Economic Freedom
In 2010, for the first time, since the WSJ and the Heritage Foundation began this exercise in 1995, the US fell from the ranks of economically free to " mostly free". The 2010 ranking covered the period of July, 2008- June, 2009. The fall crossed two administrations and was triggered by the U.S. Government becoming a stakeholder in " too big to fail" and TARP.

The 2015 ranking is for the period of July, 2013- June, 2014. The authors note that the U.S. decline has been arrested. They conclude further work will need to be done:

Unwind government intervention
Reduce tax rates
Spend less and devolve responsibilities
Give workers a raise.

It will be interesting to see the 2016 rankings for the period of July, 2014- June, 2015, given our involvement and bombing in the Middle East and granting $ billions to Jordan, let alone what's to come over the next 3 months.

Be aware Paul Ryan is up to his eyeballs in this. The same Paul Ryan thant pitched replacing Medicare with vouchers and when your vouchers run out, it sucks to be you. AARP has their pitch forks sharpened and ready.

People are not strangled by every day living expenses in an economy that is free to grow and produce. The greater the cash flow, the easier it is for people to make purchases and keep production lines from suppliers moving forward, which keeps people employed.

I suspect since more people are employed by the U.S. Government rather than private companies producing goods for market, economic freedom will continue to decline, because the U.S. Government is not in the business of manufacturing goods for the market place.

Asked the millions of folks living in section 8 housing, getting food stamps a little cash assistance, free phones etc etc.

I always hear how bad it is living off your neighbors hard work but they always seem to have 200.00 tennis shoes and a flat screen with cable? Maybe their priorities are screwed up?

They seem to like it so much they developed a system to live off the system and teach their kids how to do it.
