Both together don't make any sense. They can't both be true

A, We're not a democracy
B, Thomas Jefferson once said “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

And yet both of the above are standard con yapping points

Obviously they can be since we are a republic.

That people, Jefferson included, sometimes call it by the generic name democracy instead doesn't change the fact it is a republic.

Next.

Under a Democracy, majority rules, blacks wouldnt be able to vote, gays wouldnt be able to get married, etc..

We're a Representative Republic, which is a form of Democracy. A is true

The majority can elect individuals to take away from those willing to work, irregardless of the ability of the nation to pay for them, thus B is true. Our Represenative Republic is based upon a theory that we elect people to protect the minority, not give the majority everything they want.

We're failing.

Was the point of the thread to show left wing ignorance and attack conservatives based upon that ignornace?

Both statements true. We are a republic, not a democracy. And any form of democratic rule under a republic will fail when socialism is introduced.

Yes. Resoundingly. Liberals lack critical thinking skills and can't function unless directed by their lord and master.

B is false primarily because Jefferson never said it.

Nice try but the con mantra that we're a republic is usually followed by the assertion that anybody who says we're a Democracy is either stupid or a communist or whatever

No, the point of the thread was to show that cons are stupid and I did just that.

If we're not a democracy then why is Jefferson referring to us as a democracy

For the record Jefferson never said that, but cons think he did

Yes, exactly. When they bleat "we're a republic, not a democracy!" they're not actually saying, "we're a republic, but not really, because we're actually democratic, but we hate that word because the political party we hate uses it as its name!"

Oh, wait. That is precisely what they mean.

We're not a democracy but Jefferson called us a democracy? How the hell does that work?
