I'm not going to be stupid and make claims that the baby was out being a parasite and stealing from Wal Mart..

I'll leave that up to you.

No, a thread about the ethics of whether it's okay to steal if you're stealing for a "good" reason.

What's lame is your response to it, ignoring and diverting attention away from the point in order to bash conservatives.

Yup.

Now...is it moral to charge someone who steals for their child.....that depends.

#1 lets first assume there is a child.
#2 there must be no other reasonable alternatives.

The #2 part is the massive hurdle. You can donate plasma, beg, etc. But again...read where I said "no alternatives". I cant imagine that as a possibility to be honest for me.

But again...we should deal in reality, and not let our moral compass be decided by fantasy.

Lets say...mother is disabled. Cant even beg. And is in transition between collecting ssi from having been employed before. Shrug. I couldn't convict someone like that. Number of people this probably applies to in the us right now? 6-7?

Well, the baby is a "taker" who does nothing to earn his keep, so I guess he gets what he deserves.
Sadder yet to have kids when you can't afford to feed them. That's as pathetic and selfish as it gets.

Why not? You seem to hand that title out to a lot of people regardless of circumstance. But like I say it's the conservative way.

Sorry, but I agree that there are alternatives to stealing -- food banks, relatives, religious organizations, begging.

I personally could not refuse a mother, baby in tow, who asked me if I could spare enough money for her to buy some formula (in which case, I would actually buy it for her). I also could not refuse any friend or relative (or even neighbor), in which instance I would buy a CASE for her or him -- unless I knew that s/he would just turn around and sell it, or if I knew that she was abusing welfare benefits in some way (in which case s/he would receive a severe tongue-lashing from me before I relented and bought enough for just a week).

Apparently unlike you, I do believe in not letting babies starve. I mean really thats my argument. In one of the biggest and wealthiest countries in the world, we should never argue for letting babies starve.

Apparently you disagree. Good for you, this nation was built on arguments and reason.

You always make these arguments that OTHER people should make our nation better. Not you. nope. you don't want to be part of a nation, you just want the benefits near as I can tell.

In many ways I find that a worse attitude then the people who ARE leeches. Te ones that say "why work when others can work for me?" I am not a fan of those folks. But at least they are honest about it.
