Abstinence-only is a plan for those who wish to deny reality.
Nothing wrong in advising abstinence but yes you need to include birth control and STD prevention. I doubt that one of the worst subjects they could learn about.
Jacqueg: Can you think (just a little bit) outside the box? The sex education question is DIRECTLY related to unwanted pregnancies. Unwanted pregnancies are something that everyone wants to avoid. My point is that there is another option, and that is adoption...
And whoever said there isn't?
Your post was #25 in the thread. *All* the previous posts were discussing the thread topic - Is abstinence-only an effective way to teach teens about sex? Your exact quote was "Doesn't anyone support adoption?"
Are you saying that it is OK for teens to get pregnant, because then there will be more babies available for adoption, so it doesn't matter whether abstinence-only sex education is effective or not???
What should be taught is........abstinence is the one and only way you can assure yourself to not get pregnant or a STD.....if you are unable to do this, these are the options and the risks associated with them.........
Don't push abstinence-only on others. If you want your children getting pregnant as teens, fine for you but don't impose your personal failed ideologies on others.
This is true.
Also true is your stupid post. One anecdote does not make a movement.

Ok, I will grant you most of them probably are. But what does that say about YOU?
All that being said, sex ed should be available to everyone beginning in middle school.
But facts are facts. Abstinence is the ONLY way to 100% not get pregnant.
The above was my basic philosophy and also the philosophy of the sex-ed program at my kids' school.
At 17 in age, I believe she was not allowed access to adequate birth control by her "abstinence-only" father.
