WASHINGTON -- Congress’ tax committees announced an agreement Thursday to speed through a bill to give President Barack Obama the fast-track authority that he will need to push mammoth new trade deals through Congress.

While many believed a deal was in the works, news that it was actually done came as a surprise to members of both the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee, which had been called to a hearing on the deal less than 12 hours earlier.

The fast-track authority would likely pave the way for both the controversial Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership agreement with the European Union and the Trans-Pacific Partnership with a dozen Asian nations. Both deals are vastly larger than NAFTA, and would involve about two-thirds of the entire world’s economy. Currently, the United States has trade agreements covering just 10 percent of world trade.

Wow. Amazing how fast the Republicans can grease the skids when big business comes-a-calling.

Why aren't they fighting Obama tooth and nail on this one?

Because they have always supported big trade deals. The silence is weird. Why won't they want to talk about it, and apparently they have told FOX to remain silent too.

From Finn's link:

The deal's backers are Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), Finance Committee Chairman Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and the top Democrat on the Finance Committee, Sen. Ron Wyden (Ore.).

While it's not noted..Wyden is a Democrat.

IMHO this is a lowball attempt to exclude Congress from TPP letting Obama make the final decision.
This is wrong on so many levels.

And it seems the WH was already privy while members of Congress were called to a meeting to debate a bill they hadn't even seen yet.

It's a Dem idea, so Dems will support it, but GOP is pushing it through.

Yay. Another deal to take away people's rights in both countries, and put their money in the pockets of the elite. Yay capitalism and freedom!

They were all upset when Obama came back from the last TPP meeting saying they were being kept in the dark.

Yeah...I.get all that.

But why the silence? Finn is right...a huge deal like this, and even Fox is silent.
