He is too young to have a Grandfather owning slaves, perhaps a Great Grandfather or Great Great Grandfather.
Why should it be talked about? It is not him, he is not involved, he did not choose for them to own slaves and unless it affects one's life or family directly it is really no one else's business. Besides the past is just that the past, it cannot be changed, altered, nor prettied up, it is and will remain as it happened.
" Grandfather" is the sensational headline. The actual story is about an ancestor.
I bet a lot of people have slave owners in their family if their ancestors are from the South. The celebrities who are on this show have a problem if they want to hide that.
Or, from the North. For example, New York didn't free all their slaves until 1827. I always find it amusing when people think northern ancestors didn't have slaves. They just don't look back far enough, a lot of them did.
I have seen people apologize for having slave-owning ancestors on these shows. Someone please tell me how we are responsible for what our ancestors did. Get over it.

True yet a only small percentage nationwide owned slave including blacks, whites, and even native Americans.

Make as much sense as being "proud" of your heritage or ancestry. But, yeah, I don't really see the point in either. My grandfather was in the Wehrmacht, so what?
Did Ben Affleck own slaves? I can understand why someone would be uncomfortable about talking about their ancestors owning slaves. So no, I don't see how that relates to this forum section....this should be in a celebrity section or something.
It relates to this section as PBS backed down. What a bunch of wusses!
One side of my family immigrated from Germany, the other side are Cherokee.
I wonder how much land I can get back that was stolen from my Cherokee ancestors.
I don't get upset over things that cannot be changed, that I did not do and I refuse to defend myself for the actions of others.
Hence the reason I don't understand why his wanting that part taken out is an issue, he did not do it and is not responsible and honestly I don't see a reason to be upset over it.
Why should he be forced to discuss something that he had no control over that happened a hundred years before he was even a thought let alone a twinkle in someone's eye?
There is no discussion to be had, he is not responsible for what his ancestor's chose and he should not have to explain nor defend any of it.
Because it's a part of his family history, that's why. IF Mr Affleck is so worried about certain things; maybe he NEEDS to give up being a celeb and just fade out. If either Jeb Bush or Hillary TRIED to hush up parts of their family trees; people'd be all up in arms over THAT.
