America appears to have done a 180 on the acceptance of gays and lesbians.

I think much of America is getting very fed up with "Christian" charlatans who cloak their hatred and intolerance in the bible.

I just want to know: why the hysteria over gays? Christians view other things as sinful, why aren't they up in arms about ills in our society?

I mean look at how our politicians lie and steal, that's a sin. You never see conservative Christians get up in arms about THAT.

OR the divorce rate in America, something Jesus spoke specifically about, and somehow that is up to interpretation.

Sexuality isn't a main factor for me, I don't care what people do in their spare time in the privacy of their own home. I'd go for the gay person though over the latter.

Right. Someone who considers themselves an evangelist is not going to keep his private religious beliefs out of the workplace. And if that workplace is the US government, no thank you.

punishment? In theory, someone who lies, steals.. We have laws against that and they will be punished. Whereas there are no laws against homosexuality, and as those laws were eroded, that's when you've seen the church get more and more vocal against homosexuality.

My guess.. Perhaps the church thinks that they are supposed to make sure that people get punished, rather than leaving it up to their God?

Religion and Government compete with each other.

Get rid of religion and then the government can tell you what is right/wrong via legislation.

Abortion was wrong until the government said it was right.
Government wants to make all the moral laws that society lives by but religious doctrines get in the way.

So the obvious answer is get rid of the religions.
