Why would anyone oppose this? I read the bill. It is short, to the point, and allows exceptions for rape and the health of the woman. It also explains the research. I don't see why the senate or anyone else would be against bans on mutilating a fetus for no good reason.

House passes bill banning abortions after 20 weeks - CNNPolitics.com

Of course Hillary is against it.

Thank God... which mentally healthy person would kill a baby after 20 weeks (5 months) pregnancy?!

Which means they pulled the wool over your eyes and it provides no restrictions. Read the history of Doe v Bolton.

{edit} The article does not state what exemptions other than the rape one is included. So we have incomplete info here.

We have a large numbers of people in this country who support killing their own offspring if it makes their lives more convenient for them going forward.

Sad but true.

Barack Obama has promised to veto, so clearly he is such a person.

I oppose this on bodily autonomy grounds.

I believe that since a woman owns her own body that it is her right to end her pregnancy at any time she chooses since the fetus is entirely dependent on her body for survival.

At 20 weeks, the fetus is as long as a banana and is likely viable outside the womb.

Not after 20 weeks or so.

I have no problem with the Bill is close to what we already have in Texas. I do have an issue with this portion of the Bill:
"It also includes a new provision requiring rape victims receive medical attention and counseling 48 hours before they can obtain abortion services."

They say they do not have to make a police report but require they receive medical attention, medical attention for what exactly, not all rape victims need medical attention or don't the idiots know that fact. As for counseling, counseling for what to talk her out of getting an abortion, BS the government has no business telling people they need to be counseled because they got raped.

Now to My question: Why does the Federal Government feel the need to have such a Bill, after all abortion is controlled at the State Level, does their law override State Laws or only the ones where abortion is performed after 20 weeks? I ask because if the Federal Law overrides the State Law then if a State has even tighter controls on abortion then they will then be loosened to the Federal levels. See how some laws can come back and bite you? Cons are not always smart when passing knee jerk laws
