Thwaites Glacier, the large, rapidly changing outlet of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, is not only being eroded by the ocean, it's being melted from below by geothermal heat, researchers at the Institute for Geophysics at The University of Texas at Austin (UTIG) report in the current edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
The findings significantly change the understanding of conditions beneath the West Antarctic Ice Sheet where accurate information has previously been unobtainable.
The Thwaites Glacier has been the focus of considerable attention in recent weeks as other groups of researchers found the glacier is on the way to collapse, but more data and computer modeling are needed to determine when the collapse will begin in earnest and at what rate the sea level will increase as it proceeds. The new observations by UTIG will greatly inform these ice sheet modeling efforts.
Using radar techniques to map how water flows under ice sheets, UTIG researchers were able to estimate ice melting rates and thus identify significant sources of geothermal heat under Thwaites Glacier. They found these sources are distributed over a wider area and are much hotter than previously assumed.

So is it the goal of the AGW alarmism movement to stop the natural climate changes of the Earth, or at least the effects of those changes, including geothermal and volcanic activity? How in the world would we possibly do that?
I hope you realize that the Earth's plate tectonics continue to move, along with the continents that are on top of them, and there is literally nothing we can do to stop that process. This means future Earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, glaciers and sea ice melting and being created, etc. For example, the Himalayas are believed to have been created relatively recently when India rammed into South Asia. These mountains are huge now, but are expected to get quite a lot larger and taller as this process continues.
You want to try to stop that? How would you propose doing that, other than raising taxes, redistributing wealth according to the whim and fancy of leftist leaders, and providing those same leftist leaders with more power to micromanage and control other people's lives, which just happens to be the standard leftist economic and political template for pretty much every situation?

Global warming/climate change is a non-issue that has been hijacked by politicians to be used as a bludgeoning tool to shape social and foreign policy, and to enact more taxes on the masses. I just finished hundreds of pages of research for a college paper on global warming. There are thousands of scientists who believe people are causing global warming, thousands more believe it is a natural cycle, and thousands more believe it isn't happening. The most concerning to me, were the ones willing to swear that they had been told to change their opinions by politicians.
The data from NASA says that the Earth cooled from 1940 to 1975. Warmed from 1975 to 1994 and had been almost static since then.
Al Gore predicted that the ice caps would be gone by 2013, but the Arctic cap is 50% bigger now than it was in 2012.
He predicted that the polar bears would die out, but the group that counts them says their population is the biggest it has been in 25 years.
Don't be sheep. read up on everything before you decide what is happening.
Oh, and the temperature sensors some of those groups are using were set out in the wild 35 years ago and have never been recalibrated.
Looks like you're going to get a fail on that paper...unless of course you're writing about trashy views from the tabloid press, anti-science blogs, or disinformation from conservative political based groups like the Heartland Institute.
Based on your posts, I think you need to do some real research if you are truly writing a college paper.
Here's a good place to start to get an overview of the history behind the science and find citations from many of the major research papers.

So the bottom line is that Iran, China and Russia are altering their military strategy to accomodate yet undetermined, undefined and parameters that will result somewhere, someday, maybe, from changing climate which has always been changing????

Hey, take heart, we lost 500 million $$$ when Obama 'invested' in Solyndra. The lesson he learned was different than what learned. So that 500mil$$$ helped stave off the natural dynamics of the earth that continually causes climate change. Hope Obama runs out of taxpayer money before he goes too far and tghe arth begins to cool.

I'll take the research of 10000's of scientists and over 100 years of physics and chemistry over some naïve 'college' student who thinks reading the tabloid press or blogs constitutes 'research'.
Try arguing with the Royal Society, or the National Academies of Science, or the American Institute of Physics, American Geophysical Union, American Meteorological Society.... and 100's of other science institutions worldwide.
