Try this the next time someone starts overly bashing the president.
Politely ask them some basic questions on their knowledge of government.
Examples would include: How are laws passed? What are the three branches of government? What power does the executive branch of government hold? What are the various decision types that the supreme court can make? What are the different roles of the House and senate? and so on........
This has nothing to do with partisan politics. It doesn't matter if they're bashing Bush, Obama, Clinton, or Reagan. You will find that more often than not, these individuals have no clue how our government works.
I've found that educated people bash the president as well, but you will rarely hear someone with a decent knowledge of government go on and on about the president's failures, as they realize the president is just a piece of the puzzle.
And yes, this is me making fun of people on this board
And Presidents surround themselves with an Administration that will do his or her bidding. I always thought when we were having an election, the people running for President should announce who will be in his Administration.
And I agree with the OP, most people are idiots. That is why we should bring back a basic voting test with simple questions like:
How many branches of government?
Which branch writes the laws?
Name one member of scotus?
What is a veto?
How many states in the union?
This of course is multiple choice and you need to get 3 of 5 correct to vote, you only get one try. All basic information to pass said test will be sent out with the voting pamphlet. This coupled with removing the party affiliation from the ballot would lead to a much better system.
