I've seen a lot of people floating this idea around as a way to pay back your country, in essence. I'll start off by saying I'm very much against this idea for a few reasons:

1. Cuts into our freedom to choose what we want to do with our lives, you would be FORCING citizens to do jobs they may not want to do.
2. Our volunteer military is made up of people do choose to sign up, how bad would things become when you fill it with people who DO NOT want to be there?
3. There's no way we could afford the cost of employing every 18-20 year old person AND the ones who are already in and staying in.

There are many more reasons, but tell me if you are for or against this kind of idea.

That would be horribly expensive and completely unnecessary. Why do it?

I went for other. Other countries have choices-2 years in the military, or other service.

I'd change it to 4 years, with the first two being training. And would absolutely have 'other services' being a large part of it. The 2 years of service is in exchange for the 2 years of training. And mandatory for all non-disabled.

A better option would be to cut the military staff by 50 - 70 percent.

Sorry, your inflated war industry is a reality no one should be forced to participate in.

Everyone should learn at some point in life to do what they are told, regardless. A lot of folks need this.
