Since we are 'One Nation Under God' and 'In God We Trust' is our official motto since 1950s and God is mentioned in the Constitution and America is the most religious "1st world" nation in this world, and religion being important and followed by most Americans; shouldn't public schools promote and encourage religion?

Our children should know and be taught the importance of faith, religion, tradition and morality which is something that religion (particularly Christianity) often brings and stands for, and family life is important. You can teach all religions and history, but encourage the belief and having faith in God is important. Our nation has been in decline while the raise of secularism has increased which is a big threat to this society! People nowadays worship money, being selfish and don't help others and those in need, marriage rate has declined while divorcement has increased, don't show respect to the parents' and the elderly, and basically lack sympathy!

As a Christian, I say no.

Schools are meant to educate. If religion is covered in terms of history, fine, but they shouldn't be promoting or encouraging it.

Religion should be taught at home, in church, in religious schools or between friends.

No.

Neither the pledge of allegiance nor the current national anthem were adopted by the US government until the 20th century, so to say it's an integral part of our history is a blatant lie.

Morality exists independent of religion. Good people come of many different faiths, and a belief in God does not make people act better or worse. Look at the Middle East. Lots of devoted God lovers, so devoted that they'll kill anyone who doesn't. And even in the US, why are the most vocally religious such pricks? And yes, that's what they are. Far too often, the religious activists are more concerned about gay people and people who don't believe in exactly what they believe. I read the sermon on the mount. Jesus would want to know why we allow kids to starve in our own country before he'd start whining about a Muslim being allowed to wear a hijab (which in his time, the Jewish woman probably wore similar things).

Secularism is what made the US great to begin with. The refusal to create a state church was a big deal for it's time and despite what you said, God is not ever mentioned in the constitution.

Religion can be taught, but not encouraged. I do think people should read the Bible. Not because I want them to be Christian but because I want people to actually know what's in it. One of the most influential things that led to my atheism was reading through the Bible. And indeed, we are possibly the most religious 1st world nation at the moment, but in what way is that a good thing? Secular countries, for whatever reason, seem on average happier and healthier. I see no logical connection between the increasingly irreligious populace and the decline of this country.

Whose faith, religion, tradition and morality? Who gets to decide the faith, religion, tradition that is taught in your scenario?

These values need to be taught at home, not in public school. Schools should not be responsible for all character development. That is, ultimately, the responsibility of parents.

A Chritian means Christ Follower so the bible is their sole authority

The Bible says to train them up DAILY in the way they should go, and they are not talking about schools but parents. Schools in fact, are not part of the equasion as per scripture. Not saying it's a sin to send them to school but the bible doesn't speak of it. Just principals which govern their lives which much happen and may dictate whether they can attend school such as public school

schools should instruct that the beliefs of others are to be respected even if those beliefs are not held by everyone.

For us that would be the United States Government who is our "god".
