I would agree that it should be removed. But there are too many racist rednecks who love what it stands for - the glory days of the South when whites got to freely subjugate blacks. You can whitewash it as much as you want, but there is no getting away from the fact that your "heritage" was founded on mistreating other humans as slaves. It was wrong then, it's wrong now.
The nazi swastika also has its own "heritage", and we don't need that thing flying around over places of government, either.
Quit kidding yourselves America. The confederate flag absolutely and clearly stands for slavery and racism. Stop trying to hide behind the guise of 'heritage'. The South got its ass whooped and needs to move on from something that happened 150 years ago. Germany doesn't demand to fly Nazi flags everywhere out of 'heritage'. They know what it stands for.
The Confederate flag is a symbol of explicit racism, white supremacy, chattel slavery, and violent treason. Anyone who denies this is willfully ignorant or intellectually dishonest at this point.

The same people who are now saying we should move on are the ones who whine about slavery every chance they get.
People of this country have freedom of speech. Flying the confederate flag is freedom of speech, and whether you like it or not it is their right. Not flying the flag is not going to cure the ills of society. Get real people.
