As Pride Week gets underway in Seattle, Mayor Ed Murray unveiled new rainbow crosswalks at several Capitol Hill intersections Tuesday morning.
There are 11 crosswalks on Capitol Hill getting the rainbow treatment -- for a total cost of more than $100,000 according to the city's transportation director. Seven of those were painted and treated overnight and four others will be finished Tuesday night.
The idea has been discussed for some time, but was delayed by logistics and cost. It was initially said that the colorful crosswalks cost about $6,000 for a total of $66,000 for all 11.

Seattle is getting to be as much of a freak show as San Francisco. Heck, it's only money. Better hope someone isn't offended by these.

I think it's nice that they care so much about people and want them to feel good.
It's only money and Seattle is one of the elite cities to live in.
If they want to create their own little Utopia and don't ask me to pay for it then let them.

I think they are kinda pretty. We need more art in public places, and not just hanging on the walls of stuffy government buildings.

And for the gay bashers, look at the symbolism. We can all walk all over gay people ...

I agree, this sounds like a fun way to visually improve a neighborhood. Seattle is definitely known for its art, and it is good when the rest of the city reflects that creativity.

I've been watching Ed Murray w/ interest for a long time. He is an old school, back biting pol familiar to me as someone who came of age in Chicago. He forcibly displaced the kindly sweetheart progressive Pat Thibaudeaux from her Senate seat and the went on to run for mayor.

All the while he had a no-show gig at the University of Washington.

I can't decide what to wear. I don't want to clash with the rainbow as I float across it in fashion. How to accessorize is not so much a problem. But, please, tell me no one is going to be throwing fairy dust. I really don't like fairy dust. It makes me sleepy.
