GOP sounding more and more like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren:

Income Inequality
Raise Taxes on the Rich
Regulations for big banks
Stop corporate welfare

I wonder what the City-Data "patriot" conservatives think about this...

Raising taxes on the wealthy? Calling out income inequality? Meet the new GOP. - The Washington Post

I see no inconsistency in being a patriot and favoring ordinary people over corporations and big banks.

Saying that billionaire hedge fund traders should pay their fair share (that is to say, more than nothing) is not the same thing as being a wasteful tax-and-spend Democrat.

Defending the wages and jobs of poor and middle class Americans is not the same thing as being a socialist.

Obama and his economic adviser (GE head Jeffrey Immelt) giggled when they admitted that the $800 billion stimulus bill (that taxpayers will be on the hook for) didn't produce the promised "shovel ready jobs" after all.

In the meantime, that very year GE paid zero - zip - nada in corporate income taxes.

Democrats like Obama couldn't care less about America, Americans or American jobs.

They only care about an international socialist Utopia without borders and cultural distinctions that never existed and hopefully never will.

Of course, being the elite, they themselves would live like Gilded Age capitalists.

Socialism and poverty for the masses, control and unheard of riches for the elites -- including Obama, the Clintons (now worth $250 million -- all from the great industries and jobs they created -- er, not), the Feinsteins, the Kennedys, the Pelosis, etc.

In my lifetime the GOP has used those lines before and they mean nothing once they get in power. They are against SS(retire later),Medicare(voucher), UE and are for lower taxes on the rich(flat tax- increase on all except the top), trade deals which favor their corporate owners(Nafta and TPP), laissez-faire govt ( we saw the results in 2008). Reagan used it and look what has happened since.

GOP = Populist, not in my lifetime

Exactly. The GOP knows its economic policies are highly unpopular as they only benefit s tiny ultra rich elite do they lie and obfuscate - nothing new here.

Remember it was the GOP which freed the slaves and the Democrats which kept Jim Crow going for close to 100 years.

Point - Political parties don't remain static. They change.

As it stands now, the ones of you who are fighting the false war of Democrats vs Republicans (as they are from 2000 on) are deluding yourselves. Beyond a few social wedge issues, there has been absolutely no difference in their policies.

Me either. It's why I vote D. Not that they're perfect in this regard...

You're right. The GOP isn't populist.

But Trump appears to be.

Why do you think the GOP -- AND the Democrats (who are just as sold out to Wall Street) -- can't stand him?

Lefties have deluded themselves into believing that the Dems are really "for the little guy". Look at the current economic situation. Who gained wealth over the last 7 years? I know that you all would be shunned from the cool kids table if you actually spoke the truth about Barry's failed presidency, but for gods sake...at least admit it on an anonymous forum.

I would love to see a ticket with both Carly Fiorina as VP and Trump. Many of us hate this idea of royal families like the Bush or Clinton dynasties. We would also like to see the reestablishment of our 'check and balance' system (which now appears broken). Congress and our Judicial system was never supposed to boot step behind the President; which is what it looks like today. Our party lines have blurred to the point where it looks like one big party.
