Don't they control both houses? Or is the deal not as bad as the media reports?
Just seems strange to me.
Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I understand it: the agreement with the Senate is that there will be a vote on whether to reject the deal. In other words, the deal is presumed already 'accepted', and the Senate must vote to overturn the deal.
However, should the Senate so vote (via simple majority), then President Obama may veto said vote. The Senate would then have to override the veto. If 34 Senators vote against overriding the veto, then the Iran agreement stands. In short, the Senate would need 67 votes to override the veto.
Hence the news just now that President Obama has secured the necessary number of votes:

Democrats are too afraid of going against the party and thus getting removed from their committee assignments or not getting party backing in upcoming elections.

yeah, every news reports notes this. GOP is trying to block it, they passed a law saying "blocked".
Obama will veto it
and is one vote (yesterday) to make sure his veto doesn't get overulled.
Hard to believe that we have 34 senators and a president that are treasonous. Well...not really after the last few years.
