Apples and oranges. You'd have to follow other examples like their immigration policy because with an open border, you will have no gun control: Australia: Illegals not welcome We would have more weapons than ever coming through our southern border without this protection.

In the US, they continue to cut budgets for mental health care. The states get less and less funding from the federal government and most of this started when the economy tanked. Now, with people earning less, unemployed and underemployed, the tax dollars aren't there not to mention, once again, the burden of care for illegal immigrants and their anchors. Cuts have to be made and the mentally ill are usually the first they look at.

What is so disturbing to me is that often, the signs were there and everyone ignored them not taking threats and comments seriously. I think some education in that area of procedures would be helpful.

I got so annoyed when I took my adult son with disabilities to see a new doctor here and I was asked "Do you have any guns in the house?" That was part of the questions on a new patient questionnaire. It took me so long to answer that I doubted they believed me. I was in shock.

I am guessing every time they mention trying to restrict gun ownership that sales go up.

I know, let's divide the country into two parts, one for gun owners, where they can shoot at each other to their heart's content, and one for people who hate guns and where guns would not be tolerated. We need to create a safe place of non-violence for people who would agree to a strict weapons ban. If there were a state that banned all guns I would move there. I do not feel safe in this country because of gun violence and crazy people addicted to lethal weapons. My opinion is that anyone who would shoot a gun is inherently sick, unless they are at war and have orders to do it. If you need to hunt for food, guns are cheating, too easy, you are a wimp. I want to stay as far away from gun-toting sickos as I can. And anyone who owns a gun is a coward in my book. The more guns you own the more of a coward you are.

Much easier to kill lots of people with semiautomatic guns than with a single shot rifle or a knife.

When will libs finally own up to the fact that underneath all their flowery self-descriptions, they are simply fascists?

Australia is an island, just as a reminder for those who are geographically-challenged.

The US has porous borders to the north and south.

Once again, we need to ask the question: what happened to their rate of death by other than guns, injury by other than guns?

It has worked well in Australia, let's do the same in America. It seems like conservatives do not mind regular mass shootings taking place in this country as it has happened.
Australia didn't have a major gun culture before they implemented strict gun control. I believe in gun control, but the US has a higher violent crime rate even if we exclude gun related crime. We also have and had a strong politicized gun lobby and right wing militia type moments.

The military would have to get involved in any confiscation, because we know the crazies will flip and protest quite violently if we implement gun control-- no matter how small.

So did their immigration policy to stop illegals. If you come illegally, you are deported, no questions, gone.
