A big issue is how politicians can advocate for war while never having to worry about themselves. What if it were a requirement that any politician that advocates for war if shown to be an ultimate disaster such as Vietnam were tried and executed for treason? After the Vietnam war for instance had all the politicians that had been for it been convicted of treason and hanged how would you feel?

Treason?

That's a bit much.

They're obviously guilty of idiocy, though.

As are their supporters.

As long as there are people willing to join the military and fight these wars, the problem can't be solved.

They can want whatever they choose.

Treasonous actions should result in charges.

i think if you are going t pose a question such as this, then you need to fully explain every term

ie define advocate

since you mention Vietnam: and politicians:

do you mean the fact that FDR negotiated at Yalta , which made Vietnam split into two countries, therefore actually causing the war??

do you mean Ike; as he is the first to send troops as was helped France retreat from there in 1954, and then started having troops there from 1957 on??

Do you mean Kennedy, who trickled in troops?

do you mean LBJ, who expanded it, but was still too low of troops to actually win??

do you mean Nixon, who continued the trickle of troops to 'try' to win, and ultimately pulled us out??

thats just the POTUS's that were involved in the Vietnam quagmire

so again what is your meaning , when you say advocate

Sure it is, which is why Bush has been held up by the left as the devil for invading Iraq, and not even a whisper about Obama invading Libya.

There is a double standard, Obama could bypass the Constitution and devise a deal to give Iran permission to build a nuclear bomb an ICBMs that can reach the USA, and give Iran $150 billion to accomplish this, and the dems would stand and cheer him on. But Reagan would be called to be impeached for trading arms with Iran to free US hostages.

We did not even get US hostages freed with Obama's Iran deal. Hell, Obama did not even bother to get Iran to agree not to murder anymore US citizens with his deal.

Maybe we need go back to basics. USA is a democratic country. All "politicians" are elected to their positions by a majority of voters. If they "advocate war" they represent a majority in this country that "advocates" war. So your problem is not with individuals, but with millions of people.
When a "politician" will appoint himself POTUS, or secretary of defense, and will start a war against the will of the American people, let's put him on trial for treason.

The idea is so idiotic on so many levels... suffice it to say... the solution to your concern is called an election.
