Prefer US go the route of Democratic Socialism with a participatory economy. I will say though I don't believe the Scandinavian Model will work in the U.S. I mean socialist policies have occurred throughout U.S. history. I think the aversion is the U.S. has had an aversion to Communism for awhile. Additionally, America is based off of free will and individual rights. There is socialist movements that entail citizens more rights, reduce Government size, and expand state powers.
Those European countries are not socialist countries they are all "capitalist countries." Examples of Capitalism
Switzerland is a country like Denmark that is run by conservatives. And Switzerland outperforms America in everything, from their economy, economic freedom, standard of living, to life expediency.
And the Swiss have no welfare freeloaders, they stand up to illegal immigrants, they have public funded gun ranges, a citizen militia, and super low business tax rates. One would think American conservatives would ask the question, How do the (conservative) Swiss do it, and what Swiss policies could be used to improve America?
So: It's actually a fairly great, well-run, well-working country where things by and large work. "Things" include government, businesses, basics like clean water and reliable power (brownouts? You kidding me?), schools and universities etc. Trains run reasonably precise, roads are in good repair, bridges don't collapse, that sort of thing. I'd move back and live there in a heartbeat. Then again. I'd move back to Germany and live there in a heartbeat, as well. For pretty much the same reasons.
It's still not Heaven on Earth, nor even Disneyland.

The Swiss have one of the highest immigration levels in Europe and face many challenges from illegal immigrants.
The Swiss mandate private healthcare insurance and subsidize the premiums of 40% of the population- low/ no income. The population trends risk adverse and comply.
The government owns and operates most hospitals.
Conscription service is mandatory. Imagine attempting to pull this off in the US.
The Swiss mind their own business and do not invade other countries or engage in endless war. Their people are not obsessed with boogie men under their beds.
The Swiss cantons impose taxes on world wide wealth.
The Swiss do many things well. It's apples and oranges to compare a country with 8 million to one with 315 million.
Denmark has a 23% corporate tax rate......I guess Bernie Sanders left that out, he has been all of his life in government and thinks life is like a Golden Corral buffet that he picks and chooses which things he likes about Denmark and ignores the rest that doesn't go along his class warfare rhetoric.
Denmark also has a 47% personal income tax rate......good luck with that liberals in winning elections in the U.S. with a 23% Corporate tax rate and a 47% personal income tax rate.....Bernie also forgot to mention that little detail about Denmark.
But what can you expect from a guy that has NEVER work in his life in the private sector and always has sucked from the titt!es from the government?
denmark...$3,269.62
usa...........$3,258.85
a 9 dollar difference
