Making some progress finally... thanks to Russia, not America.
The campaign to rescue the airbase began last month with the aid of Iranian troops and Russian airstrikes, and finally concluded on Tuesday after Syrian commandos broke through ISIS lines west of the base.
Undetstand ISIS is Sunni, like Al Queda and also like Al Queda heavily made up and controlled by the Saudis. Obama wants to oust Assad and replace him with a Saudi friendly/controlled Govt. Assad and Iran are Shia.
Better them than us. Syria is in Asia, we're not. The Russians are their fellow continentals. It's their problem.
The problem is supposedly it was our problem thus the military missions that now includes boots on the ground that hasn't accomplished much of anything.

There will be no accomplishing of anything regardless...boots on the ground or not.
Only the regional actors can fix regional problems. And that ain't our region and those ain't our problems.

Exactly. This is just a Sunni/Shia proxy war. ISIS is being funded by Saudi Arabia(our supposed ally). And Assad is being funded by Iran/Russia.
All sides in this war, are *******s. And this war wouldn't even be happening without foreign intervention.
The only question is, what do we do about it? Even if we toppled Assad, Syria isn't suddenly going to become a paradise. It would be a failed state, just like Libya, Iraq, etc.
Russia helping to defeat an organization that we helped create.
Sounds about right.
