Once upon a time in a community college somewhere a middle aged white woman with dyed bright blue hair was teaching a class on “Gender Studies”. She explained about the patriarchy, and how women had been oppressed in the past, and indeed still are, and how women and people of colour and all the other oppressed groups in society need to rise up and overthrow the white male power structure.

In her class there were six young women of Bangla Deshi heritage. They were slim, pretty, and elegantly attired, as was their custom, emphasising femininity and beauty, but in a modest and graceful way. These young ladies all paid respectful attention to their lecturer and indeed one or two even got A’s in her class, but it must be said that they didn’t really take much in. In their spare time they, indeed, discussed gender relations, but not as the blue haired lady intended. They gossiped incessantly about the young male suitors their parents had introduced them to the previous weekend. “I liked him, but my mum and dad refused point blank when they learned he had no qualifications” or “He hardly spoke to me, all he wanted was a passport to stay in this country”.

Fast forward ten years, and the blue haired lady (who has stopped dying her hair blue now) is retiring from her job at the college. The Gender Studies course is being discontinued. In truth it was only kept running until she retired, since interest had waned over the years. It was only ever popular with young white women, and they are thin on the ground now. Girls with immigrant parents prefer something more practical and work oriented, such as business studies or accounting. Besides, they’re not all that interested in white men’s misdeeds. What’s that to do with them?

Our six young Bangla Deshi ladies have all married and blossomed into proper young wives and mothers. By an astonishing coincidence they all have four children! I am pleased to report that despite having ups and downs they all still remain friends, and they occasionally all go to the park together with their children to catch up on the latest news. Thirty folks when they all show up!

Fast forward another twenty years. Sad news. Our blue haired lady has passed away. Today is her funeral. Of course, she never married, and she had no children. Many of her friends predeceased her, and her remaining family are either dead or live too far away, so just five (very elderly) people are in attendance. These include her good friend, John, who had discovered her decomposing body, and had taken care of the arrangements, which included re-homing her four cats amongst some other elderly spinsters. Goodbye blue haired lady.

Our six young Bangla Deshi women are now in middle age and beginning to welcome their crop of grandchildren. Two of our girls did not stop at four and one even had seven! Altogether they have nine grandchildren now. (But they will finish up with seventy seven grandchildren, making over one hundred folks altogether.)

And the moral of this story is...

The things that leftists care about will die with them since they are usually childless, and traditional minded people from other cultures will pay more attention to their families than they will leftists.

I'm sure someone's going to blast you for the narrative, but well said.

Nice story. The moral is completely irrelevant to the narrative, however. I know a lot of women who are feminists and are also mothers. I'm one of them, and I raised one.

You need to step outside of your little right wing bubble and see what's actually happening in other places around the world. Women in traditional patriarchal countries are becoming empowered to step outside of their tradition roles and learn how to earn their way and take care of themselves and their children. Check out organizations like The Women’s Microfinance Initiative and Opportunity International, as just a few examples. These are women in very traditional cultures who are starting businesses and learning to support themselves and their families. The blue haired feminist would be proud of these women.

You seem to think that because you know of one feminist who is childless, that must mean all feminists are childless. What you have done is use a common fallacy known as a hasty generalization--taking a single example and using it as the basis for a broader generalization. A rather simple-minded mistake.

Considering the massive stereotyping and lack of originality, I'm a little surprised John wasn't gay and the cats didn't eat the body.

C minus.

Only the simple minded see the world in black and white. Some liberal ideas are good; some conservative ideas are good. It's the extremists on either end that are the problem.

Looks like an endorsement of multiculturalism.

One underestimated factor in the West right now is the conflict between multiculturalists and proponents of enforced progressiveness. Multiculturalism (correctly I believe) holds that freedom and tolerance necessarily includes accepting as part of a diverse society cultures that may contain racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. elements because people are entitled to their own identities and way of life free from oppression by outsiders, and that oppression and discrimination against other cultures by outsiders intolerant of diversity is the root of the problematic social frictions that do exist. This is not universally accepted, and other social progressives hold that freedom and tolerance necessarily means attacking and reconstructing cultures that don't conform to modernity and have racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. practices and beliefs because their identity and way of life is oppressive to their members and is a threat to social progress that should be censured, and that society is entitled to demand these people assimilate to the "mainstream" culture of progressive social norms.

These two views are mutually exclusive to a large extent, and the latter is the viewpoint of many "far right" parties in Europe, which might make them far to the right (after all it's essentially social conservatism with a switched-out list of sins) but at the same time it's very different from what the term traditionally connotes. This dichotomy is explored quite well in this blog post. For the same reasons, it is conceivable that the extent to which diverse multicultural life is more amenable to traditional views and lifestyles would persuade conservatives and the traditionalist right to take a multicultural stance.

This is part of a wider trend of components of the governing agenda that have always coexisted for the past generation or two starting to become contradictory and thus no longer able to coexist. The biggest one coming up will be in automobiles, their safety and fuel efficiency. More fuel efficiency is impeded by more safety equipment, which makes cars heavier; more safety equipment is impeded by the need to lighten cars to conserve fuel. Technological advancements had enabled stable fuel economy to coexist with safety equipment piling up, but now fuel economy standards are moving up beyond the ability of any near-future technology to make a car with the piled-up safety equipment at a price the masses will be able to pay. A government that wants any new car market at all will in order to retain one have to sacrifice either the environmentalists' cherished mandates or the safety cult's cherished mandates - this will put two of the most powerful lobbies in the Western world into conflict for the first time in their existence. For those opposed to these regulations the would-be regulators' civil war will be quite delightful.

I bet some cons believe that nonsense is actually the norm for "leftists".
