"A veteran Chicago police officer has been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, who was shot 16 times in an on-duty incident on the Southwest Side in October 2014. After the first few shots knocked McDonald to the ground, Van Dyke fired another volley that struck the African-American teen repeatedly as his body lay in almost a fetal position on the ground, according to the lawyers."

The only reason he is being charged now, more than a year after the incident, is because a judge ordered the release of the dash-cam video, which the city has sought to keep out of public view. Had they been successful in suppressing the video, this cop probably would have walked away from this murder without consequence, as so many do.

So the cop just opened fire on someone standing there for no reason?
What was the progression of this?

Ok so this innocent youth was running around with a knife in his hands in public. Of course that could end badly.
Also, it is not unusual for officers to unload their gun into the bad guy (if this was a bad guy). There is this myth that you can shoot to wound which is a myth.
17 bullets was maybe a few seconds of shooting.

We will see if politics can stay out of this and if the facts will be heard.

Good. My question is why you felt the need to mention anyone's race?

Because this is not the first time this cop has been involved in the excessive use of force against blacks in Chicago, but it is the first time he's going to have to answer for it. And only because the city is being forced to release the video, or else he would walk again, just like he has done on previous occasions.

And because this is the kind of thing that BLM is fighting against. And because this happens again and again and again and typically, the cop walks. Tamir Rice, Michael Brown, Eric Garner...the list goes on and on and on.

http://gawker.com/unarmed-people-of-....google.com%2F

And in every case, the cop walked.

Perhaps "stop shooting once the guy is on the ground" should be added to the police training curriculum.

Strange thing that we don't see a lot of black cops involved in irrational shootings of citizens. I wonder why that is...?

It's my understanding the City of Chicago paid the victims family five million dollars before they even filed a suit. The city and the cops attorney fought like hell to keep the video from being released. I'm guessing the video is going to be horrific whenever it is released.

There was the one about a month ago when two black cops shot and killed a 5 year old boy. The father wasn't wanted for anything and had done nothing wrong - but they still tried to arrest him. Turns out that they targeted him (they knew him) and that is all anyone knows because the news decided that after a day of covering it, that is was enough. Now, if this would have been two white cops and young black child died . . . CNN keeps feeding the race-war narrative.
