This is what I can't understand. Haven't we learned anything from US history over the past 14 years to know that getting involved in yet another war in that part of the world will not go well for us at all? Some of these Republicans act like going to war or taking military action is akin to going to the grocery store for a gallon of milk.
That's why it's smart to not repeat the same cowboy mistakes that Bush used in Iraq. Obama's plan is to use American airpower and technology but have the local nation's forces provide ground activities. For all the GOP contender's tough talk, Trump and Cruz aren't putting their kids on the fighting lines.
Well, let the families of the Americams who have been and will be killed how judicious numb nuts had been. He's leaving a mess.
So you answer is to send thousands of ground troops to be killed and maimed, coming home to star on a wounded warrior commercial, and to spend another 3 trillion to do this?
Well, it could be because Obama sent a AUMF request to congress that would permanently preclude his use of ground forces against ISIS for the duration of the conflict:
(c) LIMITATIONS.—
The authority granted in subsection (a) does not authorize the use of the United States Armed Forces in enduring offensive ground combat operations.
Obama isn't interested in gathering the tools to fight ISIS... he's seeking political cover to run out the clock on his presidency.
Yes, I know that conservatives like yourself and Ted Cruz want all out war -- against who, exactly, you don't know. But what you do know is that you want "carpet bombing" and use nuclear weapons.
Of course, when one is completely indiscriminate in your desire to kill -(carpet bombing not only is considered a war crime but kills lots of innocent civilians -- just like terrorism) you are no different than the terrorists that you think you hate. It also radicalizes victim families and creates more enemies.
In spite of Ted Cruz' tough talk, the GOP in the House and Senate still haven't given Mr. Obama the requested authority to prosecute a war against ISIS
meanwhile the war criminal currently in office gets a pass from you
what about you current potus, who has carpetbombed and killed civilians in at least 7 other countries.....yet the left and you are silent
Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, afganastan and Yemen
obama first couple of days in office he became a killer...he CARPET BOMBED CIVILIANS in Pakistan

What that provision means is that the passed resolution couldn't be used as an open-ended authorization, as critics of the 2003 resolution stated. It means the president would have to go back to Congress for expansion of conflicts.
How can Congress seriously object to a requirement that the President must go back to them for authorization of future conflicts?

So...that authority does not "authorize" the use of ground troops for combat, it does not forbid it from happening via another resolution. That is a lame excuse of the do nothing/take no responsibility congress.
Wish I could weasel out of the responsibility of my work and get paid too.
Also, I don't know where you get the impression this would "permanently" preclude his use of ground forces against ISIS for the duration of the conflict when the resolution expires in three years.
Quote:
SEC. 3. DURATION OF THIS AUTHORIZATION.
This authorization for the use of military force shall terminate three years after the date of the
enactment of this joint resolution, unless reauthorized.
