Poll: Majority Of Americans View Islam Negatively, Including Democrats - Breitbart

...unless muslim attacks against non-muslims in the West suddenly stop, these numbers won't get better. They are likely to get worse.

Breitbart is not the best source for data. That being said they reference a poll.

And the question in the poll is:
Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of the Islamic religion?

Which is interesting. As a atheist I have a unfavorable opinion of all religions. That doesn't mean I have a unfavorable opinion of Muslims in general (although I have very negative feelings about some of them).

A couple years ago a Pew poll asked opinions about other religions. White evangelicals rated Muslims higher then atheists. In fact atheists were barely more popular then muslims.

Turns out religions of people who do not share your religion is often viewed unfavorably. So if anything....I am surprised Islam did that well.

Ironically, as a Christian I have an unfavorable view of you as an athiest. However, I wish you no harm. And I assume you wish me no harm. Therein lies the difference.

No news. Islam is an "ism." It's a body of ideas. I would actually expect the left to have an even more unfavorable view of it than Republicans.

Your assumption is correct. but the vast majority of Muslims wish me no harm either. The problem is with a minority. Even worse is that the hatred that shows from many can cause the majority of muslims to start thinking that hey....maybe that minority isn't wrong...

The problem is forcing your beliefs on to others. Communists (Atheists) tried that and killed millions in the process. Islam routinely tries to force their beliefs on others. If you let people make their own choices, that's how you get peace.

Please do not attempt to conflate communists with Atheists. One is a religious lack of faith, the other is a governmental organizational choice.

I've been in Muslim countries, some of them very peaceful. Malaysia for example.

Mmh, still the only people that come to my door to convert me are Christian-Jehovah's Witnesses. Even though I was raised heavily in the Catholic Church. Mormons have been coming around lately too trying to recruit and "force their beliefs" on people.

Muslims have been trying to convert you or force their beliefs on you?

I live in one of the most Muslim cities in the US and don't see that.

What goes on in other countries has nothing to do with the US and our unique history of religious tolerance.
