It's semantics... There's a reason why monotheism started in the Middle East... Religions simply build upon each other.

Funny thing, the article you cite contains none of this info.
CBS reported that Christian and Jewish songs were also being sung, and gave "Away in a Manger" and "Silent Night" as examples.

It's actually more than semantics.

Catholics believe in the Holy Trinity..Father, Son and Holy Ghost which Islam considers heresy.

So it's fine to sing to a nutcase Jesus but not the other nutcase Mohammad?

So when it was only Christian music most schools banned religious songs at Christmas.
Go look it up..Supreme Court refused to hear and decide on an appeal back in 2010.

But now that Islam is the religion du jour it's ok to have religious songs and Christian songs are now included.

I guess since the left is embracing Islam the Christians can ride on the coat tails of "religious" now.

But Catholics believe it's one God. I'm sure there are quite a few Protestants that believe Catholicism is heresy....

It's more than semantics in the sense that all 3 religions differ on the details. However, they all believe in the same monotheistic deity that sprang up in the "cradle of civilization" : God/Yahweh/Allah.

Where does this come from? Who says that the Left is embracing Islam? Are there prominent Leftists - spokesmen, if you like - who are saying this?

Islam in general is somewhat - & radical Islam in particular is absolutely hostile to the notion of individual rights for women, what we in the West consider to be basic human rights, participatory forms of government, the rule of law (in an impartial manner), it's a long list. I'll look around myself, but meanwhile - Do you have a link or listing or something to back up this belief?

Islam doesn’t have “songs”. In fact, music is prohibited in Islam, just like ISIS says.
