Ah... absent the assassinations, coups, massive arms shipments, support for armed opposition forces, perhaps you are right.

The right tried to get countries to embrace freedom and democracy. The left... you get this.

U.S. Support of Gay Rights in Africa May Have Done More Harm Than Good
America’s money and public diplomacy have opened conversations and opportunities in societies where the subject was taboo just a few years ago. But they have also made gay men and lesbians more visible — and more vulnerable to harassment and violence, people on both sides of the gay rights issue contend. The American campaign has stirred misgivings among many African activists, who say they must rely on the West’s support despite often disagreeing with its strategies.

...
Fierce opposition has come from African governments and private organizations, which accuse the United States of cultural imperialism. Pressing gay rights on an unwilling continent, they say, is the latest attempt by Western nations to impose their values on Africa.

“In the same way that we don’t try to impose our culture on anyone, we also expect that people should respect our culture in return,” said Theresa Okafor, a Nigerian active in lobbying against gay rights.

...
“Before, these people were leading their lives quietly, and nobody was paying any attention to them,” Ms. Iwuagwu said. “Before, a lot of people didn’t even have a clue there were something called gay people. But now they know and now they are outraged. Now they hear that America is bringing all these foreign lifestyles. They are emboldened by the law. The genie has already left the bottle.”
Maybe the left should have followed their own advice and stayed out of the business of imposing their values on other countries.
Most people on the left that I know of really don't accuse the right specifically of doing that. The left criticizes America for using it's military superiority to impose their will on other nations. The right tends to be more in favor of using military power to make other nations do what we want, but most people on the left worth listening to don't really think US imperialism is a purely left/right issue.

However, it is undeniable that the right is more involved in this. Supporters of military intervention of other nations that pose no immediate risk to us is something the right is far more likely too support. Once involvement has happened, however, what we do is no longer clearly right or left. Getting involved is however objectively more so on the right.

I have searched and searched and searched and searched for articles relating to your statement, and cannot find what you are saying. I found information about a Dutch Reformed church, I have found varying opinions by African churches opposing or supporting their leaders' quest for apartheid, but nothing about what you say. Would you please post a link on this?

It's not the left or the right, it is Americans period. The left push gay rights, the right pushes Christianity and boundless consumerism, and nobody really gives a damn about these people and their wishes. The Americans are simply used to viewing the world as their personal playground. Left or right- it doesn't matter.

You see a similar thing happening right here in America regarding racial relations. The cultural left has sensed that they have an advantage in the public debate on these issues so they have pushed hard to keep them at the forefront. When you make the differences between us in to the focus when you are trying to promote tolerance you may end up getting the opposite result than what you intended. Racial relations are worse now than they've been in a generation. We've passed the laws that make it illegal to discriminate, and at some point you just have to let people figure it out among themselves within the context of those laws. If you try to hurry up a natural process it can blow up in your face.

I think it is more Europeans than Americans that are pushing liberal views abroad, but basically it is the UN which sets the standards for what kinds of views and developments are desirable and which are to be corrected.
