I look at some of the stuff happening on college campuses and about restroom symbols, I couldn't help but wonder if these people have other real-life concerns.

If someone doesn't know the economic situation America is in, they probably conclude that these people must have so much wealth, opportunities waiting for them, and retirement benefits no brainer, because otherwise, it'd be plain stupid and silly to be obsessed with campus political correctness and restroom symbols.

It just shows how out of touch with reality people have become. These are not retirees who have made it. These are young people who have not made. They often have below zero net worth.

It's quite pathetic that people act rich, act privileged, when they have nothing to back it up. All the while, the workers and students in the developing world are honing their skills and striving. What happens to the American young, the special snowflakes, is already established by their own behaviors. It's a choice they have made.

While also including millions of older people funding their faux-success with multiple maxed out credit cards.

It is the American way to amass great quantities of STUFF! We have Malls, Super Stores, The Home Shopping Networks, Amazon and Online ways to buy more and more crap.

We are all very spoiled in America, we live in nice houses, have new cars to drive around on nice safe roads, food is abundant and top health care is available. Compare these perks to most third world countries and no wonder we have so many sneaking across our border. Even the illegal immigrants are treated well.

What is troubling is how fragile many of the college age kids seem to be. The other day there was a story how upset and frightened many were because someone had used chaulk to write "Trump 2016" on the sidewalks.... OH the horror of it all.

Meanwhile across the globe there are kids their age that are wondering if they will eat today. There are also other American kids in military uniforms serving their country so there is hope for us.

Americans as a whole do not like being poor and have little concept of how bad it can be. It has become very difficult to put money away for that pending rainy day and few do especially when the Gov. seems to be handing out so much.

The biggest let down for college kids is that when they graduate with a huge debt they don't have a big cushy job to step into but here comes Bernie who will wipe out that debt and give everyone free stuff!
I think many people are dreamers and are planning on a miracle to save them.

Americans have been enriching the rich in America for decades. They deserve credit for making all that wealth possible. The "1%" would not be possible if it weren't for the contributions of those on the lower rungs of the ladder, both past and present.

Americans have a right to be proud OP. They put up with all kind of BS and crap, get fed crumbs, and still slave away to create/produce/extract more wealth.

you made a great point that americans enrich the rich. they pay credit card debt at an interest rate so much higher than what banks pay them. the fact is that walmart can't destroy small towns without the people shopping there at the first place.

I recall at a point starting in the late 70s, watching middle class and poor begin to try to emulate the rich. People started to go nutty when designer goods were mainstream marketed and reproduced.

There seems to be a longing and a greed for a display of wealth to the extent that people will sell themselves out and take stupid risks to pretend to be one of the elite wealthy. I don't know what it is that drives this, if you can't afford something just don't get it. Yet people I know who were raised with common sense lost their minds when given a credit card, car lease or a crazy no-doc mortgage loan.

So, entitlement isn't new but yes with a more fragile youth now something will have to give. I suspect the taxpayers.

Posts like this remind me why I stopped using credit a decade and a half ago. No interest payments, no stress, and I live a much more minimalistic and down to earth lifestyle than I did back then. It's a lot more painful to make spontaneous purchases when you pay for them with hard earned cash. I still buy cool toys, but I make really sure that I want them before I do so.
