I think this is a great measure. I particularly like pinning the wage hike to cost of living increases. My prediction is more people with more disposal income will be a great boon to the California economy, but of course some predict that this will be a job killer. Time will tell. I'm glad one state stepped forward and chose to be the experiment. If this goes well, we could finally see a reversal of the 40-year long declines in the standard of living for working Americans.

California lawmakers agree to a $15 minimum wage

according to BLS
California - May 2014 OES State Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates

the median wage is $18.84/hr in california....

It seems like this move is purely symbolic and not going to have much impact

This is the real deal when it comes to trickle down economics. Long overdue to boot. I pumped gas for two dollars an hour in 1970. The cost of living as gone up 1000% since then. Right wing economists seem to always forget how a raise like this pumps money back into the neighborhood.

You need about $50 an hour to live decently in California, so this is just the beginning.

I'm sure we can have more illegal aliens come here, though, and slow down the process of raising wages.

I'm sure Hillary would like that -- just like Obama.

I totally disagree. That's the MEDIAN wage. They are going to raise the MINIMUM wage to three dollars below the median. This is going to have a huge impact. It's almost appropriate to call this revolutionary.

Yep. I strongly suspect this is going to be great for the economy because Australia has a $15 minimum wage and it's economy is much stronger than ours. However, maybe it won't. This is the test case. We'll no longer have to wonder. If California experiences the economic boom I suspect it will, anti-wagers across the country can no longer dismiss livable minimum wages as pie-in-the-sky nonsense.

I read that it was $30 an hour to live decently in San Francisco -- the highest cost of living area in the state. A single person can do well for him or herself on $15 in the California town where I was born and raised.

Australia Debates Whether Its Minimum Wage Is Too High - WSJ

Looks like they are rethinking that high minimum wage since the economy has slowed down.

Watch even more businesses leave Calif. But that's OK, because then they can put even more people on govt. assistance.

Or, watch businesses spring up all over the state to take advantage of a huge market place of people with disposable income who spend it. We're finally not going to have to wonder. California is stepping forward to be the test case. If they succeed, and I suspect they will, the Koch brothers and all of the others who have been trickling on the American workers for decades are going to **** their pants.
