English and French are official languages in Canada, making Canada a bilingual country. There's other countries where more than one language is officially recognized.

Should America recognize English and Spanish as its two official languages? Yes or no??

Official bilingualism is a burden which Canada accepts only because the alternative is a breakup of that country.

Is assimilation of immigrants already a pipe dream?

Why stop at Spanish - add Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Romania - heck we get immigrants from all over the world so to limit the official language to just English and Spanish is racist isn't it libs?

For hundreds of years - people from all nations immigrated to the US for a better life. They were proud to learn their new language and assimilate - who's gotten lazy? It's one thing to teach another language in school - I took French for 4 years - it's another to expect everyone else to assimilate for a % of the population who decide not to embrace their new countries language.

Last I heard, public schools in San Francisco had to deal with kids speaking more than 50 different languages.

So the demand for pandering to people who don't speak English will never end.

Just say no.

While French and English are indeed official languages in Canada it doesnt equate to a bilingual country in the sense that every one speaks both languages so not really as bilingual as you may think. Quebec is mostly French and and the rest of Canada is mostly English. Not much English in Quebec and not much French in the rest of Canada. Breaks down to 7 million French speakers in Quebec and 30 million English speakers in the rest of Canada.
America a bilingual country? From my living in Quebec for the last 40yrs I'd steer clear of that linguistic boondoggle.
