But I wouldn't call someone who ferrets and sells research info to China a traitor. I'd call him/her "fired."
wouldnt that depend on the technology?

what if its the passwords to PGE's mainframe that controls the grid? Or someone that works at Los Alamos? Or a nuke?

Los Alamos is a government laboratory. I'm sorry, I should have specified: I wouldn't consider a person who sells research from a private institution or academic research environment a traitor.

Boeing? Lockheed Martin? McDonnell Douglas?

Id say, there are alot of things that could be stolen that could be considered treasonous. Even schools often work on very sophisticated things for the govt that we don't want to get into the wrong hands.

now, i don't know if stealing the blueprints of a new ford would be considered treason, but, if it does damage the economy...

Unless it's a government contract, it's not government property.

Damaging the economy isn't treasonous. Plus, the concept of treason is kind of muddled, anyway. It raises the issue of implied vs. tacit consent to be governed, jurisdiction, etc. For example, does the USA have jurisdiction over actions perpetrated by its citizens if those actions take place in other countries? How about jurisdiction over non-US citizens' actions in other countries? What about those who reject the Westphalian system of nation-state organization?

I would like to mention McDonnell Douglas no longer exists. The company merged with Boeing 11 years ago in 1997. So right now they are part of Boeing.
