I wouldn't be too happy about being pulled over for no reason at all like that.
If that's all they can come up with as a show of goodwill, it ain't working for me.
I'd hold my tongue, but I'd be pissed.
If they wanna approach you in a parking lot or whatever, when you're not driving...fine, but otherwise I view it more as a harassment than a gesture of good will.

I guarantee you that kid will remember that encounter for the rest of his life, in a positive way.

maybe...or until she experiences some of the brutality they dish out so frequently....something she's far more likely to run into than an ice cream cone.
Bet the cop gets a rush out of people thinking they're in trouble and then finding out they're not. There should be a law that they can't pull you over for no reason like that.
That is sad...are you one of them?..I don't know any myself.
I can't imagine living in a hell where you "go through life hating everything".....
Lucky for me I have a very happy, loving family, and experience great joy every day.
Do you think that if you have been brutalized by the police, being pulled over for NO reason and given an ice-cream cone will make you feel better about it/them?
Do you feel that this cheap little good will gesture would be enough to make you forgive and forget?

I was actually referring to the son in the passenger seat. At that impressionable age, everything he sees on TV and reads on the Internet must make him scared to death of cops, to the point of believing what you just wrote. That gives him a free pass to become a criminal, because at that age it's easy to think you won't live long enough to have a decent life anyway, a cop will more than likely take you out.
Of course, that isn't true. For every bad cop there are 100 good ones (except they all lie if it helps to keep the bad cop out of trouble). But the bottom line is that only a very small percentage of the public, no matter their color, will be shot by a cop.
So that one good experience with a cop might change that kid's life completely. Who knows what good he might accomplish?

Sorry if you were brutalized by the police - most people do not experience that tho. However - you want to look at it - the goodwill shown is better than doing nothing which is what many are complaining isn't being done now.
Not surprised this is in Halifax. Canadian cops are far-from-perfect, but fortunately the militarization of police tactics and equipment — the us vs. them mentality — has not yet become as much of a problem here as it has south of the border.
Did you guys annex Virginia without telling anybody?
Because ice cream makes up for all the times police have abused our rights and murdered innocent people. Just as I wouldn't take anything from Gotti, I wouldn't take anything from a cop.
