Agreed.

That's however not how Equal Opportunity EMPLOYMENT works.

Are you saying the Congressman's internship advertisement is discriminatory to white, straight males, but because it is an internship and not EMPLOYMENT, discrimination against white, straight males is an acceptable practice?

The internships for Congressman Keith Ellison of Minnesota are being advertised on his website as follows:

"While Congressman Ellison encourages all individuals to apply, applicants with strong ties to the Fifth District or Minnesota are preferred. People of color, LGBTQ individuals, women, and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply."

In my opinion, Congressman Ellison is saying, and not subtly, don't bother straight, white guys.

Is Mr. Ellison's internship description of "strongly" desired applicants discrimination or inclusion?
OP, you do realize that there are straight white men who have disabilities right....

Also, usually any federal job/internship postings include this reference due to them falling under Affirmative Action guidelines and federal jobs/internships are required to put out notice that they are open to hiring minorities and those with disabilities.

My Congressman's internship advertisement mentions nothing about an intern's race, gender, sexual orientation, or disabilities.

I know plain english is difficult for you but...

All individuals include extremely stupid white men too.

LGBTQ, women and people with disabilities come in all shades, including white, so the strongly, is inclusion, to people who may not think that they would be selected for the position or don't normally apply for such a position.

Most internships (in washington, at law firms, etc.) go to those who's families can afford to support them for a year. And guess who fills a majority of the positions?

I do think that people should acknowledge this information though from the source above:

According to a report from the Joint Center for Economic and Political Studies, "Although people of color make up over 36 percent of the U.S. population and over 28 percent of the citizen voting-age population, they represent only 7.1 percent of top Senate staffers."
