Is this a crime?

Should that person be held accountable or go to jail?

or is it just carelessness...

Just trying to understand the law.

Thanks!

So you mean like this?

Interesting.... hmm.... so you can still be elected president even though the head of the FBI testifies that you flat out lied to Congress under oath?

But you said....

It's actually a bit more tricky. There are statutes that prohibit perjury in sworn testimony before congress or one of its committees. However, the congress, which is the legislative branch and has no prosecutorial power, has to refer the matter to the executive branch for investigation and prosecution. That is normally a letter requesting an investigation to the US Attorney for the District of the District of Columbia.

That just happened with respect to Clinton's testimony. But since DOJ has a written policy not to proceed against a national level candidate within 90 days of an election, don't expect anything for the next three months (other than a declination).

Since the executive branch frequently turns down the legislative branch in requests for perjury prosecutions, the congress usually has to content itself by declaring the witness 'in contempt of congress,' such as it did to Eric Holder. It hurt Holder's feelings, but had little other meaning.

Don't you think it is strange that some one like harry reid or hillary clinton can lie to the American people and there be no legal or ethical consequence which of course would be levied by the media and press?

Don't you think it wrong that reid can lie in the legislature and as a legislator be immune from legal or ethical consequence?

Yep, something is very wrong when HRC and reid can lie and people cast votes to keep them in office or run for president.

Yes. There are no laws preventing a felon from being elected president.

If Hillary is convicted of lying to Congress, she would not lose any Democrat votes and could still be elected President.

Yes.

Depends on who's running the DOJ.

Is this a great country or what?

No, it's not strange. It's real life. The rules for the political elite are different from the rules that govern you and I. That's a fact.

Yes, it is wrong. Unfortunately, there is nothing you and I can do about it.
