If I made some political protest at work I would be out of a job, guaranteed.

No, it's an illustration of his inability to understand the ramifications of his actions.

On his OWN time , YES.

NOT at work!
Especially as a member of the team. there is no "i" in team. Everything a member of the team does reflects upon the entire team. This little prima donna thinks he's even more special than his entire team.

You're going to continue to find ways to complain about what he did regardless and if I don't stand for the pledge of allegiance at work, nobody cares.

Something you probably haven't realized is that he was sitting during the anthem a few times before anyone even noticed. It wasn't until someone simply asked him why he wasn't standing that he explained why. He didn't go out of his way to say "hey, look what I'm doing everyone". It was silent protest.
Sitting down was him protesting at work. You act like there was vocal component to not rising for the anthem that he was choosing to exclude.

So?

Lots of people do lots of things for a while without being noticed.

You think he didn't help getting noticed?

Eons ago when I was in a NYC Catholic Girls HS, I went to dances at our "Brother" HS. It was there I met a very cool, intelligent guy who was all the local talk about being a phenom HS Basketball player. Lew and I talked about a lot of current events, but basketball and religion were never among them. Neither of us were what you could consider religious then.

When I read years later, that he converted to Islam it did surprise me. Not that he became a Muslim, but any religion at all. Me? I consider myself to be among the "Nones" as far as religion is concerned.

I think some you will know this Basketball Legend who I am talking about. Remember, this was many decades ago. Why would you be surprised at this happening today?

Star-Spangled Bigotry: The Hidden Racist History of the National Anthem

But who am I kidding, most of you are going to roll your eyes and not read it anyway.
Some people see the entire world thru racially tinted lenses.

Let the excuses pour in..
First of all, NFL: Players are encouraged but not required to stand for national anthem

NO ONE says he should stand for national anthem, fail to do that = being a traitor or un-American. Not many of us believe that

Most people are saying there is always a time a place to "protest" No need to make the event all about him.

Now we're mad he did it at work.

You all will continue to find excuses to make your thinly veiled points.

And while we're on the subject, you don't need to be oppressed or black to make a statement either. So his bi-racial history is neither here nor there.
Again, where is the vocal component for not rising for the anthem?

You act like we should commend him for not grabbing his crotch, flipping the finger off at us, and yelling racial slurs at the top of his lungs.
