So what's this got to do with anything, what's the point????? Gee, someone wrote something that wasn't true, some broadcasters are unethical, some broadcasters are unfaithful. They are not running for POTUS and it's up to us to view anything in the media with a skeptical eye, and equally up to us to find our own path to the truth, it's a burden we endure in the age of information overload. If your point is how they relate to these debacles we call debates, like I said, it's up to us to filter the BS. The "debates" are now just another reality show sensation, in fact I'd expect that by the next election Jerry Springer will be the moderator.

Basically, it was a regulatory standard imposed by the FCC that required news broadcasts to devote some of their airtime to discussing issues of public importance AND giving a contrasting view. Basically, it was a requirement that more that one view be presented and the FCC could determine if it was fair and balanced. Now, I'm not above recognizing some risks involved with a policy like that. There is a frightening possibility of censorship but there was public oversight. The Fairness Doctrine was a policy that said the airwaves belong to the public and there is an obligation to serve the public. Repealing it made it so this was not the case. Broadcasters no longer have any obligation to serve the public. This is why, according to many, the media is the way it is. It wasn't perfect before, but it was better.
This is of course the result of neoliberalism. Neoliberalism is the philosophy of "money first," usually by allowing the private sector more power than they'd otherwise have. Thus, the media is far more concerned with making money and making sure they never stop making money by giving filler but exciting news and making good political friends. Under the Fairness Doctrine, this likely would not have happened.
